Discover Dubrovčan
Accommodation in Dubrovčan
Dubrovčan is a lowland settlement in the Horvatska Valley, along the Gubaševo–Klanjec road. There are two distinct starting points for exploring its culture: Kurija Dubrovčan, a historic manor house, and a theme park with art installations. This gives you the option of focusing more on architectural history or on artistic tributes to notable figures from Hrvatsko Zagorje.
Kurija Dubrovčan and its history
Kurija Dubrovčan is a single-storey masonry manor house. Its year of construction is unknown; in the early 19th century, the building belonged to the Erdődy family, and later to the Brigljević and Palffy families. The ground floor contains agricultural rooms with Bohemian vaults. The upper rooms mostly have flat ceilings. The manor can therefore be understood both through its ownership history and its specific interior layout.
A theme park for notable figures from Hrvatsko Zagorje
The theme park in Dubrovčan features twelve art installations dedicated to notable figures from Hrvatsko Zagorje. They stand along a footpath whose shape is based on the logo of the tourist board. A musical bench tells a story about Zagorje and its notable figures in Croatian and English. The availability of individual language versions may change; if a particular language is important to you, check in advance. Using the “Park s tematskom stazom u Dubrovčanu” application, visitors to the avenue can scan each figure and access an augmented reality experience. Check in advance whether the application is available.

Landscape and the wider destination

In the wider destination of Općina Veliko Trgovišće, the Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows is located in Veliko Trgovišće. Its construction lasted from 1838 to 1876; the church has a single nave and neoclassical features. Scenes from the life of Christ are depicted inside. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; “neoclassical” refers to a design based on classical forms. The descriptions therefore concern two different aspects of the architecture: the layout of the interior and the stylistic classification of the building.
The Municipality of Veliko Trgovišće extends westwards from the right bank of the Krapina. The Ž-2196, formerly known as the Zagorska magistrala, runs along the Krapina Valley. The Zagorje Wine Road also passes through the municipality. At the Škalec rural tourism establishment, Welsh Riesling, Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon and mixed white wine are offered for tasting.
