Municipality of Veliko Trojstvo: Culture, Landscape and Horse Riding

The central area of Veliko Trojstvo is surrounded by forests, fields, vineyards and orchards. The municipality brings together a rural landscape, cultural and historical sites, and opportunities for outdoor activities. Chapels, Art and Local History

The chapel of Majke Božje Žalosne stands in the cemetery in Veliko Trojstvo. It was built in 1858, restored in 1883, 1959 and 1996, and designated a cultural monument. The chapel of St Florian in Maglenča is first mentioned as early as 1893; a new chapel was built there in 1971. The dates highlight different aspects: for the chapel in Veliko Trojstvo, they refer to its construction, restorations and heritage protection; for the chapel in Maglenča, they refer to an early mention and the construction of a new chapel.

The Veliko Trojstvo Ethno Park houses an ethnographic collection of more than 1,000 exhibits. It illustrates the customs, culture and everyday life of the area in the past. The park also features a house in which Josip Broz Tito once lived and which later served as a museum space. The collection and the house offer two different perspectives: the exhibits focus on life in the area, while the house is associated with its former use as a residence and its later use as a museum.

Svijetle pruge offers another form of culture: an open-air gallery of wooden sculptures, some of which are located in Veliko Trojstvo. The Romska kuća is an ethno house of the indigenous Croatian Roma Lovara and also a gastronomic and cultural institution. It offers presentations on Roma history and customs, a permanent documentary and historical exhibition on the indigenous Croatian Roma-Lovara, traditional Roma music and cuisine, and lavender products.

Horse Riding and Other Outdoor Activities

The Bilogorski touristički put is located within the Municipality of Veliko Trojstvo. Activities available along this route include trail riding, recreational and sport riding, hunting, fishing, and hiking and cycling tours. You can choose from horseback activities, waterside activities, and tours on foot or by bicycle.

In Veliko Trojstvo, Galopski klub Troja offers a riding school and recreational riding. Konjički klub Veliko Trojstvo offers carriage rides. The activities therefore differ in format: lessons and recreational riding are available alongside carriage rides. Bjelovar-Bilogora as a Regional Setting

The wider destination of Bjelovar-Bilogora offers additional cycling and horse-riding opportunities. The Bilogorska konjička turistička staza is Croatia’s first internationally certified horse-riding tourism trail. It is 90 km long and has about 20 “horses welcome” points. Bjelovar-Bilogora County also offers more than 500 km of cycling tourism routes. A 69 km section of the international Lonjsko polje–Balaton cycling route runs through the county. Along the marked cycling routes, there are excursion destinations, restaurants serving traditional home-style food, covered rest areas, bicycle service stations and Smart Benches. Licensed cycling guides offer tours of the county.
