The coast of Dolni Chiflik Municipality is shaped by river mouths, long stretches of beach and the Kamchia landscape. A 9.7-kilometre stretch of beach lies within the municipality at the mouths of the Kamchia and Fandakliyska rivers. The coast and river landscape are therefore an important part of the destination, alongside natural areas, cultural traces and rural traditions.

Coastal Resorts and Accommodation

The coastal area comprises four resort complexes: Kamchia–Longoza, Shkorpilovtsi North, Shkorpilovtsi South and Shkorpilovtsi village. Shkorpilovtsi is considered a seaside resort that brings together beach and mountain meadows; the village has hotels and holiday complexes. Accommodation in the coastal resorts includes a range of options, such as villas, family hotels and bungalows.

A simple consideration can help you choose where to look: do you want the coast to be the main focus, or would you also like to include the municipality’s villages, nature and cultural heritage? The coastal complexes and the places designated for rural tourism offer different points of reference. This makes it easier to focus your hotel search on the themes that matter most to you during your trip.

Kamchia and Protected Nature

The Kamchia shapes not only the coast, but also a wet river landscape. Along the Kamchia Valley, Longoz forests and wetlands form a natural area on the Black Sea coast shaped by periodic flooding of the river. The floodplain forests at the mouth of the Kamchia are considered the most representative example of Longoz forests in the eastern Balkans. The 46-kilometre-long Kamchia is Bulgaria’s largest river flowing into the Black Sea; its mouth is at Kamchia Resort.

The municipality has 20 protected natural areas, including the Kamchia, Kirov Dol and Valchi Prehod reserves. The Kamchia Reserve is home to 245 higher plant species. A total of 258 bird species have also been recorded there, including rare birds that nest in the reserve. The area lies on the Via Pontica migration route. Together, these features give a concrete impression of how the river, wetlands and coastal area intertwine in this part of the municipality.

Activities and Cultural Traces

Fishing opportunities in the municipality are found on the Kamchia, Fandakliyska and Dvoynitsa rivers, on the Black Sea, at five reservoirs and at two fish farms. If fishing is part of your plans, check the current conditions in advance. Activities at Eko Park Venelin include fishing, horseback riding, ATV and buggy rides, archery and boat trips. As activities may change, check before visiting.

The historical heritage includes early Christian cemeteries and a basilica, as well as the early Bulgarian fortification wall of Tabia. Near Shkorpilovtsi are the remains of four ancient settlements. Other remains are located near Golitsa, Bardarevo and Dolni Chiflik. These archaeological sites add a long history of settlement to the area’s natural and coastal character, although the traces are not all located in the same place.

The traditional Germe gathering near Golitsa brings together Vayak communities from Bulgaria and their descendants from abroad. Singers and musicians playing traditional instruments perform authentic Vayak folklore and folklore from other Bulgarian ethnographic groups. Dates and programmes vary; check the details if you want to plan your trip around the gathering.

Solnik, Golitsa, Bardarevo, Venelin, Grozdyovo, Shkorpilovtsi, Staro Oryahovo, Novo Oryahovo, Rudnik and Yunets are regarded as rural tourism destinations in the municipality. Seasonal culinary traditions include spit-roasted meat and oven-cooked lamb. Picnics and walks in nature connect the coastal and mountain landscapes as different sides of the destination; individual activities vary.
