Dolni Pasarel: Trails, Lake and Village History
Accommodation in Dolni Pasarel
Dolni Pasarel offers hiking and cycling routes into the surrounding mountains and beech forests, Pasarel Lake right next door, and cultural sites in the village. When planning a stay, you can weigh up routes in the surrounding area, walks by the water and local history. Routes vary by destination and approximate duration: a marked trail to the monastery takes about 40 minutes, while the route via Polovrak takes around four to five hours. This range makes planning your route a practical part of deciding to visit Dolni Pasarel.
Lake and Landscape
Pasarel Lake lies immediately beside Dolni Pasarel. It is an artificial reservoir on the Iskar River in the Pancharevo Gorge, between the Plana and Lozenska Mountains. The lake is used for walks and picnics, and a forest path runs along its northern shore. Fishing and swimming are prohibited there because it is a water-supply zone. This is distinct from the Iskar Reservoir immediately above the village: the part not used for water supply is used for camping and fishing.
Hiking and Cycling Trails
Hiking and cycling trails from Pasarel lead into the surrounding mountains and beech forests. The marked trail to the nearby monastery takes about 40 minutes; marked routes to the Peyo Buka Hut take around 60 to 90 minutes. Allow about four to five hours for the route via Polovrak. The trails to the monastery and hut are therefore the shorter options, while Polovrak takes considerably longer. The trail to Polovrak climbs gently through pine groves, meadows and oak forest. From Polovrak, views extend towards Sofia, Stara Planina, Vitosha, Plana, Rila and the Iskar Reservoir. When choosing a route, you can take both the duration and the destination into account.
Culture in and Around Dolni Pasarel

The cultural sites also differ in their time frame: the church dates back to the early 17th century, while Pasarelci keeps village traditions alive at local festivals.
