Parvomay Municipality is located in Plovdiv Province, Bulgaria. A predominantly hilly and flat landscape meets rivers and reservoirs, archaeological traces and local cultural traditions here. For your trip, it is worth including the municipality’s villages as well as the town of the same name: Ezerovo, Dragoynovo, Bryagovo and other places offer different nature and history themes.

Landscape with Reservoirs and Springs

The municipality is characterized by predominantly hilly and flat terrain. Its bodies of water include the Maritsa, Kayaliyka and Mechka rivers, the Bryagovo and Ezerovo reservoirs, and around thirty smaller reservoirs. These water resources are part of the municipality’s tourism profile, especially for water-based and angling tourism. Ezerovo Reservoir lies between Ezerovo and Dragoynovo and offers suitable conditions for angling tourism. Thermal mineral springs are located in Dragoynovo and Byala Reka. The village of Vinitsa is home to one of the few natural habitats of the summer snowflake in Bulgaria.

Archaeological and Paleontological Traces

The 813-meter-high Mount Dragoyna is associated with an ancient Thracian settlement. Archaeological excavations at Dragoyna attract visitors with a professional interest, who can also experience the area’s natural features. If you plan to visit the excavations, check the current access conditions in advance. The prehistoric settlement of Kale lies southeast of Dobri Dol; it was inhabited from the earliest times until the Ottoman conquest of Bulgaria. Two very different periods are associated with the Ezerovo area: the Thracian Ring of Ezerovo is dated to the 5th century BC, while the age of a Deinotherium skeleton found there is estimated at around ten million years. Fossils of proboscideans have also been found in the lands of Byala Reka, Ezerovo and Pravoslaven.

Museums and Local Culture

Ezerovo is home to a house museum dedicated to the poet Vanya Petkova. She spent the last nine years of her life in the village and wrote her final literary works there. In the Debar district of Parvomay is the house museum of the writer and public figure Georgi Karaslavov; the collection focuses on him and his family. The town museum is located in the “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” school and preserves historical relics. Before visiting, check the museums’ current access arrangements.

The municipality has 16 community cultural centers, each with an amateur ensemble. A festival of amateur arts celebrates local self-taught performers and their contributions to art, folklore and community life; dates and formats vary each year. Traditions in all the settlements also include celebrations in honor of saints. Examples include festivals in Tatarevo, DĹlbok Izvor, Lyubenovo, Debar, Bukovo, Dragoynovo and Ezerovo. The exact dates of the festivals vary from year to year.

Reservoirs, Events and Planned Trails

The area around Bryagovo Reservoir is designated as a recreation zone with opportunities for tent camping. Facilities and permits may change; check current conditions before your stay. A water motorsports club organizes annual competitions and attractions there, including events of national importance. Check the dates in advance if you are planning a visit around one of these events.
