Kammer: Klimt, castle history and trails
Accommodation in Kammer
When planning a stay in Kammer, you can shape your interests around specific cultural sites and trails. The Klimt Centre and Klimt Garden focus on Gustav Klimt, while Schloss Kammer adds its own architectural history as a moated castle. There are also trails ranging from a 1.1-kilometre themed trail to a 27.5-kilometre mountain bike loop. These differences can help you balance cultural interests and activities according to your preferences.
Klimt Centre and Klimt Garden
The Klimt Centre opened in Kammer-Schörfling on 14 July 2012 and presents a new exhibition every year. If the centre is a key part of your plans, take the current exhibition theme into account.
The Klimt Garden is an approximately 100-square-metre garden. Square flower beds, a water lily pond and rose hedges shape its design. The Gustav Klimt Garden is considered the world’s first Gustav Klimt garden. The two Klimt sites therefore highlight different aspects: the centre’s annual change of exhibition, and the garden with its clearly defined design features.
Schloss Kammer and its history
Schloss Kammer in Schörfling am Attersee is a moated castle dating from the 12th century. Its history also includes a change in location: it was originally built on an island and is now on a peninsula, after a direct connection was built up. Those interested in historic buildings and their development over time can consider both aspects here: the 12th-century moated castle and its change from island to peninsula.
Compare trails by length and type
The Gustav Klimt themed trail is 1.1 kilometres long and runs from the Gustav Klimt Centre in Schörfling to Villa Paulick in Seewalchen. Kammer is one of the places featured along the themed trail in the area of Gustav Klimt’s former summer residences. The walk follows the promenades in Schörfling and Seewalchen.
The Agermühlenweg is 4.3 kilometres long, rated very easy, and starts at the Ager bridge near Kammer-Schörfling station. A longer option with a different focus is the Schörfling-Hongar cycling tour: a 27.5-kilometre mountain bike loop starting and ending at Kammer-Schörfling station. The three routes differ not only in length. The themed trail has a named start and finish, the Agermühlenweg is rated very easy, and the cycling tour is a loop that starts and ends at the same place.
Getting there and boat service information
Kammer-Schörfling station can be reached on the Kammer Bahn from Attnang-Puchheim or Vöcklabruck. The Kammer-Agerbrücke stop is also accessible by bus. As transport connections may change, check the latest train and bus services before travelling.
According to the notice dated 29 July 2026, the Attersee boat service landing stage in Kammer was temporarily inaccessible to boats because of the low water level at the time. If you are planning a boat trip, check in advance whether boats can use the landing stage again. The listed parking options for the landing stage are Parkplatz Kammer and Seepark Kammer (as of 29 July 2026). Check the current parking situation before travelling.
