Schildorn combines a hilly, agriculture-shaped landscape with historical traces and a long local musical tradition. When planning a stay, you can focus on different aspects: hiking trails and scenery, the parish church and the town’s early history, or an event.

Church and Historical Traces

Schildorn Parish Church dates back to 1067. The altar depicts Saint Martin, Schildorn’s patron saint, as a bishop sharing his cloak with a beggar. The image connects the name of the church’s patron saint with a specific scene.

The area’s early history also extends beyond the history of the church: the Roman main road from Wels to Burghausen ran through the Schildorn area. In the Middle Ages, a castle site stood in the parish of Schildorn between Lohnsburg and Pattighamer Hochkuchl. Its precise former location is uncertain. These historical traces relate to different periods and places within the area.

Trails and Rural Surroundings

Schildorn lies on the edge of the Hausruck Forest. Gentle hills and agricultural land shape the surroundings. The landscape offers a distinctive point of reference for planning your trip, especially if you would like to make time for trails and views of the surrounding area.

The 2008 municipal hiking map describes well-marked hiking trails that pass numerous wayside shrines and chapels and offer views across the Innviertel from many points. The same map also designates the trails as family cycling routes. The map thus highlights both the religious landmarks and the scenery along the routes.

On September 4, 2026, the municipality listed daily opening hours for Schildorn’s hiking trails as 00:00 to 23:59. As this information may change, check the latest details before setting out.

Music and Events

The Trachtenkapelle Schildorn was founded in 1801 and is one of Upper Austria’s oldest music associations. By the time of the 2019 Schildorn Summer Night at the community square, at least the fourth edition had taken place. The program at the time included an open-air concert by the Trachtenkapelle, followed by DJ music featuring oldies as well as entertainment and dance music. If you plan to attend a specific event, check the current dates and program for that edition.

At the local 2018 Maypole Festival, a decorated maypole stood at the Doblmaier triangle; the festival had also been held there the previous year. The 2019 Schildorn Three Kings Run listed routes of 9.5 km, 14 km, 18 km and 30 km. If you would like to include the run in your travel plans, check the dates and routes for the current edition.

More to Add to Your Stay

For water-based recreation, the lake in the neighboring municipality of Pramet is an option for visitors from Schildorn. Ried im Innkreis, the district capital, offers numerous shopping and dining options and is about a 15-minute drive from Schildorn. These two suggestions add different regional interests to your view of Schildorn without presenting them as local amenities.

When planning a hotel stay, you can first consider whether trails and scenery, the town’s history, or a specific event date is your main priority. If you are planning a stay around a festival or a run, checking the dates and program for that edition is a useful first step.
