Pramet: A poet’s legacy and a swimming lake in the Hausruck Forest
Accommodation in Pramet
Pramet brings together the legacy of dialect poets, exhibitions, historic buildings and a swimming lake in the Hausruck Forest. This gives visitors a choice of different focuses when planning a trip: the cultural centre explores the life and work of Franz Stelzhamer and presents contemporary art, while the cultural trail is dedicated to poets. The lake complements these cultural attractions with seasonal opportunities on the water and, in winter, on natural ice. Which aspects take priority for you depends on whether you are looking for cultural history, changing art exhibitions or seasonal activities.
Franz Stelzhamer and the cultural programme
An exhibition at the Stelzhamermuseum Pramet cultural centre presents the life and work of Franz Stelzhamer (1802–1874). The cultural centre also hosts changing, project-based exhibitions of contemporary visual and applied art, as well as literature, music and multimedia performances. This brings the study of a particular poet together with changing artistic themes. The various formats range from exhibitions to literature and music, as well as multimedia performances.
The cultural trail in Pramet is dedicated to the three dialect poets Franz Stelzhamer, Hans Schatzdorfer and Ferdinand Binder, and features numerous poetry panels. It therefore extends the focus beyond Stelzhamer to include Schatzdorfer and Binder. The panels add a distinct literary element alongside the exhibitions at the cultural centre.
The Stelzhamerhaus, also known as the Stelzhamermuseum, is located in Großpiesenham in the municipality of Pramet. It is a memorial site in the poet’s former parental home. The so-called “Muadastüberl”, an interior dating from the early 19th century, has been preserved in the house. While the cultural centre offers exhibitions and performances, the Stelzhamerhaus focuses on the historic site and its preserved interior.
Listed buildings and the parish church
The Federal Monuments Authority’s register dated 23 June 2026 lists the Stelzhamerhaus and the Catholic parish church of “Mariae Heimsuchung” in Pramet as protected by decree; the “Schatzdorferhaus” farmhouse in Großpiesenham is listed as a protected monument under Section 3.
The parish church is also a Marian pilgrimage site. Its main altar, “Visitation of Mary”, dates from around 1690. It depicts the Mother of God with the infant Jesus; Saint Joseph is shown to her left and Saint Joachim to her right. The church’s religious significance is thus connected with a specific altar painting that can be dated to a particular period.
Swimming lake in the Hausruck Forest
The Pramet swimming lake is a dammed, natural lake right beside the Hausruck Forest. It invites visitors to swim and enjoy water sports; access to the water and bathing conditions vary with the season and operational circumstances. In winter, its natural ice provides good conditions for skating and playing ice stock, provided the ice is safe.
The activities available at the lake therefore vary by season: swimming and water sports depend on seasonal bathing conditions, while skating and ice stock depend on safe natural ice. If the lake is a key part of your trip, plan around the season and local conditions. Pramet offers a choice of different experiences, from literary heritage and art to seasonal activities on the water or ice.
