Discover Sankt Radegund
Accommodation in Sankt Radegund
Sankt Radegund brings together hiking in the Weilhartsforst forest, cycling routes and sites associated with Franz Jägerstätter. If you are planning a stay, you can assess the town according to the focus of your days: Are you primarily interested in trails through a forest landscape, cycling routes, or historical and religious sites? The options each have a different focus and offer specific points to help you choose.
Hiking in the Weilhartsforst forest
Sankt Radegund is one of the municipalities with a large share of the Weilharts- and Lachforst forests. The forest is considered a natural treasure and is particularly appealing to cyclists and hikers.
There are four signposted hiking trails in the municipality. Well-marked paths lead through the natural surroundings of the Weilhartsforst forest around Sankt Radegund. This gives you both trails within the municipality and the forest’s specific landscape setting to consider when planning. The Heil-Bründl Chapel is also part of the town’s history: after it was destroyed by a fire in 1980, it was rebuilt in 1981 and subsequently consecrated.
Cycling routes and other trail connections
The St. Radegund Hunting Chapel is located in the middle of the forest, directly on the Tauern Cycle Path. The Via Nova Trail and the Ruperti Long-Distance Hiking Trail 10a pass directly through Sankt Radegund. When finding your bearings, it helps to distinguish between these connections: the chapel is on the Tauern Cycle Path, while the other two trails pass through the town.
The pump track offers another cycling option. It was built in 2021 as part of a combined cycling route and playground. This makes it possible to distinguish a route that passes through the town from a purpose-built combination of pump track, cycling route and playground. The different options appeal to different interests without needing to be combined into a single tour.
The Jägerstätter House and parish church
The Jägerstätter House is located at the former home and workplace of Franz and Franziska Jägerstätter and serves as both a museum and a memorial site. You must register in advance to visit, so take this into account when planning. The Franz Jägerstätter Path runs between the house and the parish church and is about 1.5 km long. In places, it follows the route Franz Jägerstätter took to church every day. This gives the path a biographical connection in addition to its clearly identified endpoints.
The altar and interior of the parish church were redesigned during a major renovation in summer 2015. Together with the path between the church and the Jägerstätter House, this offers a specific way to visit the local memorial sites. The Heil-Bründl Chapel provides a different historical focus: it was rebuilt in 1981 after the 1980 fire, and the consecration followed its reconstruction.
