Ginzling is located at 999 m in the Zemmgrund valley, amid the mountain scenery of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. The area’s highlights include hiking trails and a specific route through the Floitengrund valley, as well as a legends trail, ice climbing, and a seasonal toboggan run. The High Mountain Nature Park Zillertal Alps stretches from around 1,000 m near Ginzling to 3,509 m at the Hochfeiler. These elevations show two different scales: Ginzling as a village in the Zemmgrund valley and the nature park’s broad range of altitudes. When choosing a place to stay, you can therefore consider both the village’s specific location and the range of activities on offer.

Hiking and Scenery in Ginzling

All hiking trails in Ginzling bear the Tyrolean mountain trail quality seal; most are in the protected area of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. Certifications can be renewed or updated. If the quality seal is important for your plans, check its current status.

One specific hike leads from the Ginzling Nature Park House to the Greizer Hütte through the Floitengrund valley. Across long stretches of forest and alpine pasture, increasingly expansive views open up over the rugged Floitenkees glacier and the surrounding Zillertal Alps. How far you can see depends on the weather. Both the stretches through forest and alpine pasture and the views of glaciers and mountains are defining features of this hike.

Legends Trail and Ice Climbing

The “Dornauberger Riesen” legends trail runs around the Nature Park House in Ginzling. It offers an audio adventure with puzzles that brings Hedwig, Hans, and Emil to life. Alongside the landscape-focused hiking options, it provides a storytelling experience featuring named characters and puzzles. If you are weighing up different activities for your stay, this is quite different from a hike where the route and views take centre stage.

The Zillertal Ice Climbing Park is in Ginzling, on the Zamserbach stream, at an elevation of 1,310 m. It has two sectors and offers ice routes around 35 m long for beginners and experienced ice climbers. This activity is seasonal and depends on winter conditions: check the conditions and operating status before climbing.

Winter, Local History, and Events

The toboggan run at the Tristenbachalm is 2.1 km long, starts at an elevation of 1,200 m, and is regularly groomed. Grooming, however, depends on snow conditions. This makes it another winter activity in Ginzling, with conditions that differ from those on the hike through the Floitengrund valley described above. When planning, consider not only the length of the run but also the season’s snow conditions.

The village’s history offers another point of interest: the Maxhütte was once a hunting lodge commissioned by Prince Franz Josef von Auersperg. Its former purpose and its builder give this historic site a specific context alongside the nature and leisure activities. The Zillertal Steinbock March has been held in Ginzling since 1969. Its dates change from year to year; if you are planning your stay around it, check the date for your intended travel year.
