Zettersfeld offers several options for a stay: mountain meadows and hiking, a family park, and a ski area. If you’re looking for hotels in Zettersfeld, first consider which activities you want your trip to focus on. The trails differ in route and terrain, and seasonal gondola operations are a factor for the family park.

Mountain meadows, heights and views

Above the tree line, extensive alpine pastures and flowering mountain meadows stretch across Zettersfeld at an altitude of around 1,800 m. The hiking area extends into the Hohe Tauern National Park, reaching an elevation of 2,278 m. On the way up to Zettersfeld, there are views of Lienz and the Lienz Dolomites. This combines getting your bearings in the mountains with views of these two landscape destinations.

Hikes to the Neualpl Lakes and Steinermandl

The 5.5 km “Steinermandl via Rotmannalm” hike starts at the mountain station of the Zettersfeldbahn and leads to Steinermandl at 2,213 m. Conditions on the route can vary seasonally; take this into account when planning.

The hike to the natural gems of the Neualpl Lakes starts at the mountain station of the Steinermandl four-person chairlift. After a short descent of around 20 metres in elevation, the trail runs flat across the alpine pastures to the lakes and continues towards the Hohe Tauern National Park. Another route description leads from this mountain station via the Neualpl Lakes and rough boulder terrain to the southern summit ridge and the summit cross; this tour is suitable only for experienced hikers.

The trails differ considerably in terrain: the hike to the Neualpl Lakes includes a short descent followed by flat alpine pastures, while the route across the boulder terrain continues to the southern summit ridge and is reserved for experienced hikers. The starting point for the “Bike & Hike Schleinitz 2,906 m” route is the car park at the valley station of the Zettersfeldbahn.

Family Park and Ski Area

There are 15 adventure play stations along the family hiking trail in Zettersfeld Family Park. The family park is open during the summer operating season of the Zettersfeld gondola lift. So if you plan to visit, take the gondola’s operating period into account. This seasonal factor is just as relevant to your plans as your choice of activities.

Most of the slopes in the Zettersfeld ski area are suitable for families. Sunsite Park offers space for snowboarders and freeriders. So, alongside hiking trails, winter sports and a dedicated area for these two groups are also options for different travel interests. Which of these matters to you can determine the focus of your hotel search.

Dining and travel planning

Panoramarestaurant Steinermandl is the highest-altitude restaurant in Zettersfeld. If you’d like to plan a visit, check in advance whether it’s open, as restaurant opening times may change.

The gondola’s summer operating season is relevant when visiting the family park; conditions on the “Steinermandl via Rotmannalm” hike can vary seasonally. The hike to the Neualpl Lakes can be assessed by its short descent and the flat section that follows, while the route across boulder terrain is explicitly reserved for experienced hikers. This helps you choose Zettersfeld based on what best suits your stay.
