Sankt Kathrein am Offenegg: Hiking Trails, Mills and Gardens
Accommodation in Sankt Kathrein Am Offenegg
Sankt Kathrein am Offenegg is a flower village in Almenland Nature Park and a member of the Styrian Flower Road. The village offers panoramic views of the alpine pastures in the nature park. If you are looking for a hotel in Sankt Kathrein am Offenegg, you can plan your trip around the interests you want to shape your stay: hiking, the history of mills, garden art or a seasonal winter activity.
Hiking by Route and Landscape
The Vogelbeer Panorama Trail starts and ends at the Kathreinerhaus in the center of Sankt Kathrein am Offenegg. The route is 4.8 kilometers long, takes 1.5 hours and has an elevation gain of 175 meters. This lets you factor distance, time and elevation gain into your day’s plans. The municipality may update route measurements and navigation information, so check the current route before setting out. The 175 meters of elevation gain are also part of the route information.
The MĂĽhlental Circular Hiking Trail follows the Lambach through forests and valleys. The Zetz Loop is a varied summit hike to Hoher Zetz. The hiking destinations therefore differ in their points of reference: for the Vogelbeer Panorama Trail, these are the start, finish and route measurements; for the MĂĽhlental Circular Hiking Trail, the course along the Lambach and the forest and valley landscape; and for the Zetz Loop, the summit destination.
Mills and Archery Course
The “Grobnflorl” Mill is one of two restored mills in the Kathreiner Mill Valley; there were once 20 mills there. The former number gives an idea of how strongly mills shaped the valley. At the “Winkelbauer” Mill, there is an entrance behind the mill for a visit. If you plan to visit specifically, confirm the exact visiting arrangements in advance.
The Almenland Archery Course winds through forests and meadows and along streams, offering views across the Passailer Basin. The Zetz Loop offers a different kind of view: from the summit hike to Hoher Zetz, you can see across Eastern Styria as far as the Pannonian Plain. On the course, the focus is on trails through the landscape; at the summit, it is on the far-reaching views.
Garden Art and Seasonal Activities
The Hanging Gardens of Sulamith are distinguished by garden design with an Oriental influence, art objects, sculptures by Sissy Sichart, healing herbs and shade-giving trees. Various workshops and courses are also offered. If you would like to include a particular activity in your travel plans, check the dates in advance.
The Karlwirt leisure facility has an ice rink every winter for ice skating and curling. If one of these winter activities is the reason for your trip, check in advance that it is available on your travel dates.
