Selzthal lies where the Enns and Paltental valleys meet. If you are looking for a hotel in Selzthal, the main focus of your trip can help you choose where to stay: landscape, hiking, winter sports and railway history each shape a different side of the town. The following routes and sights will give you ideas for planning your days.

Landscape between valley and heights

Every spring, the expansive Selzthaler Moos marshland blooms white with daffodils. From the gently rising heights near Selzthal, the view stretches across the entire Enns Valley to the Grimming. The marshland and panorama offer two different perspectives on the area: the broad, open valley floor and the view from above. If you are planning your stay around the landscape, the daffodil season and the views offer different themes to consider.

Hiking route and rail connections

Hiking Tour 83 over the Dürrenschöberl leads down to Selzthal along Trail No. 651. For the return journey from Selzthal station, you can take trains or RegioBus routes 930 and 931. The station is also the destination of the Dürrenschöberl route; passenger trains towards Graz and Liezen stop at the station’s main platform. Both bus and train connections are therefore listed as return options for the hike. Check the timetables before setting out so you can include your return journey in your plans.

The Rastland cycle route R15 connects the Enns Cycle Path R7 with the Mur Cycle Path R2 and runs mostly along secondary roads and separate cycle paths. These details describe a cycling route’s connections and course, while the Dürrenschöberl route is a specific hiking tour.

Winter and activities in town

When snow conditions permit, the ESV Wintersport Selzthal grooms a cross-country ski trail about 11.7 kilometres long. It runs from the sports centre across the Enns meadows to Neulassing. The trail offers a chance to enjoy the peace and nature. As its use depends on snow conditions, this is an important consideration when planning a winter visit.

Selzthal Sports Centre also brings together a range of facilities: these include a beach volleyball court, a football pitch, a fistball court, an arena for stock sport, a tennis court, a skate park and the Naturfreundehaus. Individual availability may vary. Selzthal outdoor pool has a long slide and a current channel. The town’s sports facilities therefore differ from the snow-dependent ski trail; which ones suit your stay depends on your travel plans.

Railways and architectural history

Railways are part of Selzthal’s history and a feature of the town today. The Selzthal–Weyer line section opened in 1872. The roundhouse with its turntable at Selzthal station is a protected historic monument. The combination of railway history and present-day train connections makes the station a distinctive point of interest for visitors interested in both.

Other protected buildings include the Evangelical School and Prayer House in Selzthal and the Neo-Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The church was consecrated in 1892. These buildings complement the railway history with different religious and architectural themes.
