There are various activities to consider for a trip to Schaueregg: hiking, cycling and winter activities. You can access Hiking Trail 07 directly from Tauchen-Schaueregg railway station. A circular hike leads from Krumbach via Schaueregg and Maierhöfen and back to the starting point. To reach the Wexl Trails Hochwechsel trail loop from the direction of Vienna, travel via Mönichkirchen to Tränktörl in the Schaueregg district. The Hallerhaus is connected to the Central Alpine Trail 02 and a seasonal ski access route. The different starting points, routes and conditions can help you tailor your plans to a specific activity.

Hiking: trail access or circular hike

You can access Hiking Trail 07 directly from Tauchen-Schaueregg railway station. Check the trail conditions before setting out so that your plans match the current route.

Another hiking option is the easy Knappenhofweg–Ponweiser Chapel–Schaueregg circular hike starting in Krumbach. It follows the Knappenhofweg uphill to Boden, then returns to Krumbach via Schaueregg and Maierhöfen. The two hiking plans therefore differ in both their starting points and their format: Tauchen-Schaueregg railway station is the access point for Hiking Trail 07, while the circular hike starts in Krumbach and returns there. When choosing between the options, you can first consider whether accessing a hiking trail or taking a circular route better suits your plans.

Hallerhaus and cycling route

The Hallerhaus is on the Central Alpine Trail 02, which runs from Hainburg to Feldkirch. In winter, you can reach the house directly on skis from the Mönichkirchen-Mariensee ski area. Seasonal conditions can vary, so check them in advance if you plan to use this access route for your winter outing. This lets you consider its connection to the hiking trail and its winter accessibility on skis as separate planning considerations.

To reach the Wexl Trails Hochwechsel trail loop from the direction of Vienna, travel via Mönichkirchen to Tränktörl in the Schaueregg district. This provides a specific local reference for cycling plans. You can consider these directions separately from the hiking access routes.

Chapels and landscape setting

The Prince Bourbon-Parma Crypt Chapel houses the tomb of the Austrian Bourbons. It is located in the Thalberger Schwaig valley in Schaueregg, at an elevation of about 1,300 m, on the eastern slope between the peaks of Lorenzkogel (1,353 m) and Windhag (1,395 m). The chapel’s name and its elevation and landscape setting offer a specific point of interest for travellers who are also interested in religious history.

Schaueregg is also home to the Chapel of Saints Joseph and Hubert, which dates to 1948. Together with the crypt chapel, it adds another religious site of interest to the hiking and cycling themes. The two chapels differ both in name and in the recorded history of each site.
