Untertullnerbach offers several focal points to consider when planning your stay: Wienerwald Lake and its paths, the Tullnerbach Cultural Trail, and sporting activities. If you are looking for a hotel, first consider whether you are planning your stay mainly around walks, local history or outdoor exercise. The railway station and the route to the lake provide practical guidance for your journey.

Wienerwald Lake and its paths

Wienerwald Lake is located in a water protection area. Swimming and ice skating are prohibited there, so do not plan to use the lake for swimming or ice skating. There are well-marked, well-maintained paths around the lake, used by walkers and recreational athletes. The lake also has a promenade path that is used by sports and fitness enthusiasts at weekends. This means you can include the paths around the lake in your plans while taking care to observe the restrictions on using the water.

Cultural trail and architectural history

The Tullnerbach Cultural Trail comprises 16 cultural stations and ends at the Wilhelm Kress Memorial. It stands on the north shore of Wienerwald Lake, right at the start of the dam. The memorial was unveiled on 5 October 1913; it was destroyed at the end of the Second World War and restored in 1954. This sequence of events also places the cultural trail’s endpoint in historical context: the unveiling was followed by destruction and, later, restoration.

Another aspect of local architectural history is Postberg. The Post Villa was built there around the turn of the century by architect and master builder Franz Peydl. At the entrance to the Irenental valley, Postberg is also home to a villa settlement dating from 1906 to 1913. This brings together two distinct aspects of architectural history: a single building with a named architect and a villa settlement whose dates are specified.

Paths and sporting activities

The Tullnerbach–Irenental connecting route climbs steeply through the Postberg settlement and reaches a narrow forest path at the end of Heinrich-Uebell-Gasse. As a mountain biking tour, the connecting route starts in Untertullnerbach. The route’s features and starting point provide different kinds of guidance: if you plan to take the route, you can account for the steep section and narrow forest path in your plans; the mountain biking tour is indicated as starting in Untertullnerbach.

Travelling by train

Unter Tullnerbach railway station is on the Western Railway line between Linz and Vienna. The S50 suburban railway runs every half hour to Neulengbach and Vienna West Station. Check the timetable before your journey. Wienerwald Lake is about a 15-minute walk from the station. For a visit to the lake, you can plan your journey in two parts: the train service and the walk that follows.
