Discover Kirchberg am Wagram
Accommodation in Kirchberg Am Wagram
Kirchberg am Wagram lies on the southern edge of the Wagram, a distinctive loess escarpment between the Tullnerfeld and the Danube Valley. Fertile loess soils and intensive winegrowing shape the landscape around the town. Culture, trails and regional food and wine experiences offer different starting points for planning your stay.
Loess Landscape and Trails
The “Alchemistenpark” permaculture site was established in 2007 and is now home to around 200 species. Several named trails also offer different lengths and starting points. The approximately 18-kilometre Wagram Trail connects the Weinviertel Trail with the Danube Cycle Path and runs through the Kirchberg am Wagram area. Cycle Route 4a, “Wine Country Around Kirchberg,” is 17.5 kilometres long and starts at the market square.
A shorter route is the 6.2-kilometre Alchemist Trail between the Alchemist Museum and Oberstockstall. The three routes thus differ both in length and in their respective starting points and connections. The “tut gut” Steps Trail starts in Alchemistenpark. When comparing the routes, you can use the stated distances and the described starting or ending points as a guide.
Church and History
The Maria Trost pilgrimage church stands on a natural rise known as the Kirchberg, southeast of the market square. Its Gothic hall church was built in the second half of the 14th century and extensively remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18th century. Its construction history therefore spans several centuries. The church’s origin story is linked to a Madonna statue that merchant Christoph Beer had installed in fulfilment of a vow in 1679.
A historical walk leads from the Alchemist Museum in Kirchberg past places of historical interest to the castle chapel in Oberstockstall. If you would like to combine the walk with a visit to the chapel, check access separately. At Gut Oberstockstall near Kirchberg am Wagram, visitors can also discover an alchemical find comprising around 1,000 objects. These nearby stops add another historical connection to the history of Kirchberg.
Regional Produce and Wine
In the “Edible Community,” you can view and sample more than 300 different species in public spaces. The specific planting at individual locations may change. Another seasonal destination is the “Kirchberg Farmers’ Market,” held on Saturdays from May to the end of October. Local farmers offer their products there on Saturday mornings. Check the specific market dates before your trip.
The Wagram regional wine shop WERITAS showcases wines from more than 50 local winemakers and serves regional cuisine. In Kirchberg am Wagram, the landscape and cultural heritage come together with offerings centred on regional produce and wine. You can weigh up these different highlights depending on whether you would rather spend your time on trails, architecture or local food and wine.
