Discover Oberrohrbach
Accommodation in Oberrohrbach
Oberrohrbach offers a range of attractions for a stay: the Golden Bründl nature trail runs alongside the Rohrbach stream and leads into the Rohrwald forest; the Oberrohrbach branch church is distinguished by its modern architecture and interior art. The Oberrohrbach Trail has a clearly specified starting point. The Golden Bründl spring and the Schöne Säule also bring historical themes into focus.
Trails and nature experiences
The Golden Bründl nature trail starts at the car park by the Golden Bründl, initially follows the Rohrbach stream and then leads into the Rohrwald forest. Twelve stations explore various topics related to the Rohrwald forest. The stream and forest thus follow a clear sequence, while the stations provide their own thematic focus.
The car park is available to both guests of the inn and hikers, and also serves as the starting point for the tour. The Oberrohrbach Trail, by contrast, starts at the corner of Mitterberggasse and Waldstraße. For orientation, the two starting points can be distinguished as follows: the Golden Bründl car park for the nature trail, and the street corner for the Oberrohrbach Trail.
Historical landmarks
The Golden Bründl spring lies in the Rohrwald forest on state road L 32 between Rückersdorf and Oberrohrbach, near the inn of the same name. It was already referred to as the “Goldener Brunn” in 1385. Its location and historical name serve different purposes for orientation: the road and the two towns indicate where the spring is, while the year is part of the history of its name.
The “Schöne Säule” is an 18th-century monument erected in gratitude for surviving a riding accident. The spring is associated with a historical name, while the column is associated with the reason it was erected. These two landmarks introduce the local history in different ways: through an early name and through the memory of an event that someone survived.
Branch church: modern architecture and interior art
The Oberrohrbach branch church was built in 2007–2008 and has a modern architectural design featuring exposed concrete and large glass elements. Exposed concrete describes a design in which the concrete surface remains visible; here, together with the glass elements, the material shapes the architecture.
Inside, an aluminium cross stretches from floor to ceiling and also represents the aspect of the Resurrection. The Stations of the Cross images are made of multilayered glass and are particularly vibrant in colour thanks to their special treatment. Glass thus appears in two different design contexts: as a large architectural element and as the multilayered material of the Stations of the Cross images. The aluminium cross adds its own symbolic meaning to these motifs.
The historical landmarks also differ clearly in age: the spring was referred to as the “Goldener Brunn” in 1385, the Schöne Säule dates from the 18th century, and the branch church was built in 2007–2008. The history of a name, a monument and a modern church building thus represent different historical periods.
