Trebesing combines a special focus on babies and toddlers with nature and culture. The village presents itself as “Europe’s No. 1 Baby Village”; all local businesses specialize in babies and toddlers and tailor their offerings to these age groups. The Dragon Mile, Römerquelle spring and events organized by the Trebesinger Teufel group also offer different starting points for planning your trip. You can decide whether a family excursion, a nature experience or a cultural theme should be the focus of your stay.

Trebesing in the Liesertal Valley

Trebesing is in Upper Carinthia, in the Liesertal Valley, near the medieval town of Gmünd and between the Hohe Tauern and Nockberge National Parks. The municipality extends west from the Lieser River to the 2,985-meter-high Reißeck summit and lies on the foothills of the Hohe Tauern.

There are two road options for getting to Trebesing: the B 99 (Katschberg Road) or the A 10 (Tauern Autobahn), exiting at Gmünd. You can plan which route suits your journey based on your starting point.

Dragon Mile: A nature experience with activities

The Dragon Mile energy adventure trail is designed as a nature experience for all age groups and as an outdoor classroom. Visitors follow a little dragon and complete activities. The Dragon Mile is suitable for family excursions and school visits, and can also be used with a stroller. Activities for groups and schoolchildren are available on request. If you are planning a group or school visit, make arrangements in advance.

A distinctive structure along the trail is the 175-meter-long Dragon Bridge. It crosses the 70-meter-deep Dragon Gorge. Both the activities featuring the little dragon and the bridge and gorge are among the described aspects of the experience. Seasonal opening hours are also important when planning your day: the 2026 summer season began on May 21. Through the end of June, the Dragon Mile was open Thursday through Sunday; from July, it was open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It was closed in bad weather. Check current opening hours before your visit. In 2026, opening days increase from four to seven days a week in July.

Römerquelle and winter events

Römerquelle, also known as Römerbrunnen, is located on the old Roman road, now called Trebesinger Landstraße, and has been renovated. It is another named landmark for anyone interested in the village’s history as well as the Dragon Mile.

The Trebesinger Teufel group organizes its own Perchten procession in the municipality. Its events calendar also includes a sled race in winter. If you would like to include one of these events in your travel plans, check the dates in advance. This makes the events calendar a separate planning consideration alongside the Dragon Mile’s seasonal opening hours.
