Faak am See: European Bike Week and Cycling
Accommodation in Faak am See
Faak am See lies on the shore of the turquoise-blue Lake Faak. Two recurring events and several outdoor activities are central to planning a trip: European Bike Week, a cycling loop around the lake, the trail center, and the Nature Activity Park. These options differ in timing, route type, and conditions of use.
European Bike Week in September
European Bike Week has been held in Faak am See since 1998 and takes place every year in September. It is free and open to everyone. The program includes free demo rides on the latest Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Dates and offerings may change, so check the specific event dates and program for your planned stay before you travel.
Trail center and loop around Lake Faak
The lake.bike Trailcenter Faaker See offers a variety of mountain biking trails in a natural setting between Lake Faak and the Karawanks. These include the family-friendly Flowgartner Trail and Lowgartner Trail. The trail center may only be used with a suitable bicycle and protective equipment, and use is at your own risk. Check the local rules and current trail conditions before riding. Family-friendly flow trails do not change the equipment requirements.
Another option is the Faaker See Loop – No. 20. It is a short, easy cycling loop around the turquoise-blue Lake Faak and runs almost entirely on cycle paths. This makes it different from the mountain biking trails in the trail center: the loop focuses on the route along the lake and cycle paths, while the trail center focuses on mountain biking trails and their conditions of use. Trail conditions may change; check the current conditions before setting off.
More activities and practical information
The Nature Activity Park has stations for visitors focusing on endurance, coordination, strength, and stretching. These four areas offer another way to include physical activity in your stay. The Faak am See Tourist Information office has a charging station for electric cars. If you plan to use it, check its current availability in advance.
From Villach to Faak am See, you can travel via the B 83 and B 85 or via the B 84 and the L 53. If there are changes or detours, it is advisable to check your route shortly before departure.
Choose the focus of your stay
For a cycling-focused stay, the short, easy loop on cycle paths and the mountain biking trails in the trail center differ mainly in route type and conditions of use. This lets you plan event dates, the cycling loop, and a trail visit as different focuses for your stay.
