Kukmirn: Apple Cycling Route and Apple Culture
Accommodation in Kukmirn
If you would like to combine your hotel stay with cycling routes, fruit growing and regional products, Kukmirn offers several specific points of interest. When planning your trip, you can choose between a cycling tour with route details, apple-themed attractions and culinary experiences; the Catholic parish church adds a historical dimension.
Cycling Tours and Scenic Views
The B62 Apple Cycling Route starts and ends in Kukmirn and is 45.1 kilometres long. According to the roadbook, the route is ridden clockwise. Check the route conditions and details in the roadbook before setting off. The distance and direction serve different purposes: the kilometre figure helps you gauge the length of the tour, while the stated direction provides a specific guide for following the route.
From the Williams pear tour, a climb opens up a view north across the Zickental valley. The two routes offer different points of reference when choosing: on the B62, you can take the distance and direction into account; on the Williams pear tour, the north-facing view comes after a climb. This lets you plan your tour according to whether route guidance or a specific scenic highlight matters most to you.
Apple Culture in Southern Burgenland
Kukmirn is known as the “Apple Village of Southern Burgenland.” Particularly fine dessert apples grow on its sun-drenched terraces. The orchard nature trail is a scaled-down representation of the more than 400 hectares of fruit-growing areas in Kukmirn. The name, the cultivation and the depiction of the area each highlight something different: the name captures the apple theme, the terraces point to dessert apples, and the trail conveys the scale of the fruit-growing areas.
The Culinary Route and How to Explore It
Kukmirn is a stop on the “Culinary Delights in Uhudlerland” route. You can explore it by car; some sections can also be covered by bicycle. This offers a different approach to planning than the B62 Apple Cycling Route: you can consider exploring the culinary route by car or cycling along individual sections. When weighing up the routes, you can therefore consider different ways of getting around alongside their respective route features.
Apple Farms and Distilleries
At Apfelhof Flieder, they have been turning their own fruit into schnapps for 30 years. Tastings of the farm’s own products are offered in the farm shop; check opening hours before your visit. At the Puchas distillery, spirits have been distilled for decades. At the Puchas visitor distillery, guided tours with tastings are offered three times a week at 4:30 pm and last about 1.5 hours. Check the date before your visit.
At Obstgut Hoanzl, visitors can taste, explore and buy products related to agricultural fruit production. Genusswelt-Obstgut Hoanzl includes a farm-direct sales centre and orchards. The offerings therefore vary in format, from processing their own fruit and guided tours with tastings to various ways of discovering products related to fruit production.
A Historical Highlight in Kukmirn
The Catholic Parish Church of Saint Joseph was built between 1760 and 1765. Alongside apple growing, producers and tours, there is also a building with a clearly dated construction period to explore as a cultural attraction. If you would like to consider more than cycling and culinary experiences when choosing your destination, the church offers a historical point of interest.
