In Oggau on Lake Neusiedl, winegrowing, hiking routes and nature come together to offer a variety of ways to spend your stay. The Lake Neusiedl Cycle Path B10 runs directly through Oggau. On the wine trail, you will find a viewing platform with an unobstructed view of Oggau, the wine-growing region and Lake Neusiedl. The town’s distinctive features also include chapels, a nature trail and a protected dry grassland area. When choosing your stay, consider which of these themes interests you most; the local details below will help you plan your days.

Winegrowing, tastings and regional cuisine

Oggau’s vineyards cover about 250 hectares. Half are planted with white grape varieties and half with red grape varieties. Wine tastings are available in various locations: at the Oggau municipal wine cellar, you can sample wines produced by the municipality itself. From April to the end of September, Gut Oggau offers wine tastings at the winery on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; no booking is required. As this is a seasonal offering, check the current times before your visit.

Gut Oggau’s Deep Tasting offers a different kind of visit: it includes a tour of the winery and requires an appointment. If you would like company on a wine walk, Rainprecht Winery offers to accompany visitors on a walk of about two kilometres along the Oggau Panorama Wine Trail. Information on how to enquire is available on the winery’s website.

At the Rainprecht Winery’s Heuriger, cold delicacies are served with wines and grape juice. Fresh sourdough bread, baked daily in a wood-fired oven, is also available; spelt salt sticks are usually on offer, too. If you would like to combine your stay with wine and regional cuisine, you can plan these offerings as activities in their own right. Check the applicable conditions for tastings and visits.

Wine trail and views

A description dated 10 October 2024 gives the wine trail in Oggau a length of 2.6 kilometres and an estimated duration of about 45 minutes. Access conditions may vary. Rainprecht also offers guided walks of about two kilometres along the Oggau Panorama Wine Trail. These details provide two reference points for wine walks; if you would like a guided tour, ask about the details in advance.

The Oslip–Schützen–Oggau circular hiking trail passes through Oggau and by the summit cross on Seeberg. At 211 metres, Seeberg is the highest elevation in the Oggau municipal area and is easy to hike. For a different landscape, visit Hölzelstein: this 2.7-hectare dry grassland area is a habitat protected under EU directives. From there, you can enjoy an unobstructed view towards Lake Neusiedl. These places offer different reasons to explore Oggau’s trails, views and landscape.

Nature, cycling and other activities

On the nature trail, you can spot purple and great egrets, greylag geese, gulls, lapwings, western marsh harriers and hoopoes. A trip through the reed channel to Lake Neusiedl is also considered a nature experience. If birdwatching is your main interest, the nature trail offers a different focus from the wine walks or the cycle route through the town.

For cyclists, the route of the Lake Neusiedl Cycle Path B10 through Oggau provides a useful point of reference. Anyone looking to get active locally can also use a fitness trail with six stations. It is on the meadow opposite the swimming pool, in the direction of the boat harbour, and is freely accessible. The swimming pool has a 25-metre pool with six starting lanes. It is a seasonal facility; check the opening dates in advance if you are planning a visit.

The two chapels offer a different focus from the nature and wine experiences. The Rosalia Chapel in Oggau was built in 1713, and the Holy Cross Chapel around 1740. You can choose different themes for your stay: wine tastings and Heuriger cuisine, trails and landscapes, nature watching or the architectural history of the chapels.
