Prevelly offers several distinct reasons to visit: surf breaks, walking and hiking trails, art, and a memorial site. The trails can be clearly compared by distance and format, while the surfing competition takes place during a recurring period each year. When choosing a destination, consider what interests you locally and how much time you’d like to spend on each activity.

Surfing, Competition and Coastline

Prevelly is associated with some of the world’s most consistent and spectacular surf breaks. Surfers Point in Prevelly hosts the Western Australia Margaret River Pro surfing competition, held every year in March/April. If you’d like to plan your trip around the competition, check the specific event dates for your preferred travel period. Surfers Point surf break near Prevelly has facilities for surfers and spectators. Boats can also be launched from Prevelly’s beaches.

Walking and Cycling Trails

A direct comparison of a loop and a one-way route helps clarify the walking options. The Prevelly Sculpture Loop Walk is 3 km long. The section of the Cape to Cape Track from Ellensbrook to Prevelly covers 10.3 km one way and has a stated walking time of 3–4 hours. The Sculpture Loop is therefore the shorter of the two walking options mentioned. For the longer leg, the endpoints and a time estimate are also provided, offering a practical guide for planning your day. The figures refer to different route formats: a loop in Prevelly and a section from Ellensbrook to Prevelly.

A cycle path along Wallcliffe Road offers a way to ride from Margaret River to Prevelly. Unlike the Cape to Cape section, this cycling connection starts in Margaret River; the track section runs from Ellensbrook to Prevelly. The two options therefore differ both in mode of transport and in their stated starting points.

Art and History

The Margaret River Art Trails include Margaret River, Cowaramup and Prevelly. Along the walking trails, locals and visitors can use QR codes to access information about the artworks, as well as additional content about the artists and works. The trails combine movement with a deeper engagement with art. In Prevelly, the sculpture Layla by artist Russell Sheridan has also been part of the rock pools since 2013. Compared with the several works featured on the trails, Layla is a single, named work at a specific location. These are two different art formats: walking trails with digital content and a single sculpture.

The St John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Chapel, also known as the Greek Chapel, is significant in Prevelly as a memorial to the actions of the people of Crete during the Second World War and to the monks of Preveli Monastery. These monks helped Allied forces escape from the Nazis. This memorial adds a historical perspective to the coastal, walking and art themes.
