Lesmurdie: Walking Trails and Lesmurdie Falls
Accommodation in Lesmurdie
Lesmurdie is especially easy to explore when planning a trip around its trails and Lesmurdie Falls. The routes vary in length, trail type and listed difficulty. There is also free-to-use fitness equipment at Bill Shaw Reserve and bus routes that travel through Lesmurdie to Kalamunda.
Trails by length and difficulty
The Lesmurdie Brook Loop is a family-friendly, 1.5 km trail in Mundy Regional Park. The shortest of the three circuit trails, it differs considerably from the 2 km Foot of the Falls Trail and the 5.5 km Palm Terrace Walk. The Brook Loop is family-friendly, while the two longer trails are rated moderate and fairly challenging, respectively.
The Foot of the Falls Trail is a moderate, 2 km circuit leading to a lookout above Lesmurdie Falls and to the base of the waterfall. Its length falls between that of the Lesmurdie Brook Loop and the Palm Terrace Walk. When choosing a route, the destination matters as well as the distance: this trail leads both to the lookout and to the base of the falls. Another short return walk along Lesmurdie Falls is 640 m long and provides access to several lookouts.
The Palm Terrace Walk is a fairly challenging 5.5 km circuit through Mundy Regional Park and Lesmurdie Falls National Park. The two park trails also differ in where they go: the Lesmurdie Brook Loop is in Mundy Regional Park, while the Palm Terrace Walk passes through both Mundy Regional Park and Lesmurdie Falls National Park. This trail combines the longest of the three circuits with the two named protected areas.
Lesmurdie Falls through the seasons
The seasons bring different impressions of Lesmurdie Falls. The cascades are particularly impressive in the wetter months; in the drier months, there are still beautiful views across the Swan Coastal Plain. If you want to focus on the waterfalls themselves, the wetter months are especially relevant; the drier season is also a good time to enjoy the views across the plain.
Fitness and bus connections
Bill Shaw Reserve has free-to-use outdoor fitness equipment year-round. It offers another way to stay active alongside the trails: instead of taking a walk through a park, you can use the fitness equipment here.
Transperth bus routes 282 and 283 travel from Elizabeth Quay Bus Station through Lesmurdie to Kalamunda. Check the latest timetable details before travelling so you can coordinate the bus connection with your travel plans.
