Accommodation in Violet Town
Violet Town brings together nature, remembrance, local art and cycling. If you’re looking for a hotel in Violet Town, deciding what you’d like to focus on during your stay can help you plan: would you like to go for a walk, learn about local history, visit an exhibition or compare cycling routes?
Walking trails and nature in Violet Town
The established Honeysuckle Creek Walk is a three-kilometre loop along Honeysuckle Creek in the Violet Town Recreation Reserve. The Honeysuckle Creek Walking Track has shaded sections and seating. These features may change; if they’re important for your walk, check current local information before you visit.
At Shadforth Reserve, a walking trail runs around the horse training track. The reserve’s natural setting also includes remnant native vegetation and a diverse birdlife. Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre Wetlands provide habitat for local birds. The nature experiences differ: Shadforth Reserve is known for its trail, vegetation and birdlife, while the wetlands provide habitat for birds.
Memorials, history and art
A memorial garden next to Violet Town railway station provides information about the Southern Aurora train, the train accident and the efforts of local helpers. The Southern Aurora memorial is also in Violet Town; a plaque there commemorates the 1969 train accident. The railway’s history is therefore connected both to the train and to the local response after the accident.
Exhibitions at the Ian Errey Museum explore themes and significant events from the history of Violet Town and the district. The Violet Town Heritage Walk includes an old house on the town’s first surveyed block, allotment No. 1. Behind the Ian Errey Museum, BackArt Gallery presents works by local artists in free-entry exhibitions. The exhibition program and opening arrangements may change. Before visiting, check what’s currently on and what visiting options are available.
