Jindivick offers several distinct reasons to visit: a Country Market with a set monthly schedule, a community garden featuring produce and art, and Laurie Collins’s sculpture garden. The surrounding area also offers a diverse selection of plants and a connection to the landscape. When planning your trip, it is helpful to consider both your interests and your preferred travel dates: the market takes place only in certain months, while the garden, art and plants each have their own appeal.

Country Market and Community Garden

The Jindivick Country Market takes place on the first Saturday of October, November, December, February, March and April. If you want to plan your trip around the market, schedule it for one of these months and check the specific date in advance.

The market is held on the grounds of the Jindivick Community Gardens. There, you can find fresh local produce and handcrafted goods directly from growers and makers. The offerings therefore bring together locally grown food and locally made crafts.

The Jindivick Community Garden also has its own attractions: visitors can sample herbs or vegetables, and the garden features produce and art. Seating provides an opportunity to enjoy the view. Despite sharing the same location, the market and garden have different focuses: the market showcases goods from growers and makers, while the garden offers tastings, art and places to sit and enjoy the view.

Recycled Metal at Laurie Collins Sculpture Garden

At Laurie Collins Sculpture Garden and Gallery, Laurie Collins welds recycled metal into sculptures, furniture and metal animals. A walking path winds through a variety of sculptures. The path gives your visit a clear structure: you can view the works along a walking route rather than having just one individual work as your point of reference.

The sculpture garden also features a Mercedes-Benz completely covered in mirror tiles. This vehicle offers a different accent from the welded metal animals and furniture: while the latter take new forms from recycled metal, the Mercedes becomes an artwork in its own right through its reflective surface. Admission is free.

Plants and Surroundings

Musker’s Rare and Unusual Plant Nursery in Jindivick offers a diverse selection of trees, shrubs, perennials and seasonal flower bulbs. Its range spans everything from trees and shrubs to perennials and bulbs stocked according to the season. This differs from the plants on offer at the Community Garden, where visitors can sample herbs or vegetables.

Nangara Reserve is a clearly identified point of reference for the surrounding area: the 14.07-hectare reserve lies 3 km southwest of Jindivick and borders Bunyip State Park.

These differences can help you choose a focus: for a trip with a fixed date, the market is the key anchor. The walking path and metalwork shape the art experience; if you are interested in plants, you can choose between sampling produce at the Community Garden and exploring the nursery’s selection.
