Tinaroo offers several specific points of interest for your trip: Tinaroo Falls Dam in the town, Lake Tinaroo nearby, boating and fishing on the lake, and the Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre. These topics raise different questions when planning. Would you like to learn about the town and the dam, consider activities on the water, or find out more about practical environmental education for students?

Tinaroo and Lake Tinaroo

Tinaroo Falls Dam is located on Tinaroo Falls Dam Road in Tinaroo, Queensland. The road name places the dam clearly within the town and gives you a specific geographic reference for orientation. Lake Tinaroo is a separate point of reference in the destination's surrounding area. The lake was created by damming the Barron River and was completed in 1958. For trip planning, it is helpful to keep these two geographic areas distinct: the dam is associated with a road in Tinaroo, while the lake's history and water-based activities relate to Lake Tinaroo. This makes it clear which place is meant in each context.

Boating and fishing

Boating is permitted on Lake Tinaroo. Fishing on the lake requires a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP). Boating and fishing are therefore two different options on the same lake, and the SIP is a specific requirement to include in your plans if you intend to fish. If you plan to fish, account for the SIP as part of your preparations. This distinction is useful when choosing activities: both relate to the lake, but fishing requires you to have the SIP.

Curri Curri Bush Camp

Curri Curri Bush Camp is located directly east of the public boat ramp in the town of Tinaroo and is accessible only by boat. Its location relative to the ramp helps with orientation, while access by boat determines how to get there. The bush camp has individual fire pits. If you include Curri Curri in your trip plans, be sure to make access by boat an essential part of your planning.

Environmental education for students

The Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre (TEEC) is located in Tinaroo and operated by the Queensland Department of Education. Since 1987, it has offered students hands-on outdoor and environmental education experiences. These experiences include paddling on Tinaroo Dam. This is different from the permitted boating on Lake Tinaroo: at TEEC, paddling is part of the students' educational experiences, while boating is permitted as an activity on the lake. The years also refer to different milestones: 1958 marks the completion of Lake Tinaroo, and 1987 the start of the educational program.
