Whiteside brings together attractions with different focuses, suited to different interests and schedules. The Pine Rivers Heritage Museum conveys the history and historical significance of the district, while Whiteside Road Park is dedicated to nature conservation. On the grounds of Old Petrie Town, North Pine Pottery Classes offers hands-on ceramics classes. The museum and park have different focuses, while the classes are organised by day of the week and time slot.

History at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum

The Pine Rivers Heritage Museum conveys the history and historical significance of the district. The Skyring Clock Collection comprises 50 elaborately handcrafted clocks made by one person. The collection is therefore distinguished both by a specific number of pieces and by the shared authorship of its clocks. The museum also displays artefacts found at Camp Strathpine, a military facility during the Second World War. These two examples highlight different aspects: the clocks represent craftsmanship, while the artefacts reflect the historical context of a military site. The museum offers easier access for people with mobility impairments; accessible parking spaces are located just a few metres from the main entrance. If you need accessible parking when visiting a museum, these spaces can serve as a useful reference point.

Whiteside Road Park and koala conservation

Whiteside Road Park in Whiteside is one of three nature refuges maintained by the city council to protect local koala populations. Its focus differs from that of the museum: the museum is about the district’s history, while the park is dedicated to municipal koala conservation. Cultural history and nature conservation are thus presented as distinct themes.

Pottery classes in wheel-throwing and hand-building

North Pine Pottery Classes offers courses for beginners and advanced students on the grounds of Old Petrie Town. A hands-on wheel-throwing class runs on Mondays from 9 am to 12 pm. On Saturdays from 9 am to 11:30 am, the programme covers wheel-throwing techniques and hand-building. Hand-building classes take place on Thursdays in two time slots: from 9 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 4 pm. There is an hour between the two Thursday slots, so they are separate sessions.

The classes can be compared by technique and time of day: Mondays are devoted to hands-on wheel-throwing, Saturdays combine wheel-throwing techniques with hand-building, and Thursdays offer hand-building in the morning or afternoon. The duration also varies: the Monday class lasts three hours, the Saturday class two and a half hours, and on Thursdays there are two three-hour time slots to choose from. North Pine Pottery Classes also offers one-off pottery classes tailored to each group. Check current availability directly with the provider.
