Explore Hayman Island through a range of nature and marine activities, including guided walks, wildlife watching, bays and reefs. The resort offers a selection of tours in these areas. When planning your stay, it helps to distinguish between their different focuses: some activities take you to a peak or around the island, while others are shaped by the tides, snorkelling reefs or dusk. They differ both in destination and in the type of activity: on foot, in shallow water or by kayak.

Hiking: birdlife, a peak or a loop route

The Nature Walk heads into the heart of the island to observe birds, including cockatoos, Rainbow Lorikeets, Stone-Curlews, Kingfishers and Kookaburras. The Guided Island Loop Hike follows a guided route around the island and shares knowledge about native flora and fauna. The Sunset Peak Hike focuses not on a loop, but on the summit; the tour climbs to the summit of Hayman Island and offers views across the Whitsunday Islands. The Blue Pearl Bay Hike & Snorkel combines a 45-minute walk each way with a swim or snorkelling in a bay.

The focus of each activity is clear: the Nature Walk is about birdwatching, the Loop Hike shares knowledge about native flora and fauna, and the Sunset Peak Hike is about the summit and the views. This comparison helps you weigh up nature watching, learning and scenery as different interests.

Bays, low tide and reefs

Blue Pearl Bay is on the north-west side of Hayman Island. The island’s northern bays are among the best snorkelling spots in the Whitsundays. The 3 Hour Kayak & Snorkel Tour takes you by kayak to Blue Pearl Bay, Langford Island and Bali Hai. Participants can snorkel at the reefs and encounter green sea turtles and stingrays.

By contrast, the Sand Flat Tour is timed around low tide. When the water is low, visitors explore shallow water while marine experts show them marine life. At the same time, the receding tide reveals a 100-metre stretch of shoreline scattered with coral, sea urchins and shells. The tours therefore offer different conditions: the Sand Flat Tour depends on the tide, while the kayaking and snorkelling tour combines reefs with several destinations. The time details also help with comparison: the walk on the Blue Pearl Bay Hike & Snorkel Tour takes 45 minutes each way; the 3 Hour Kayak & Snorkel Tour lasts three hours.

Wildlife at dusk and conservation

At dusk, the Nocturnal Walk looks for native rock wallabies and owls; creatures in the water are also among the things to look out for. The endangered Proserpine rock-wallaby was introduced to Hayman Island as part of a conservation program. The Hayman Island and Arkhurst Island Complex is designated as an area for motorised water sports.
