Flaxton is a small village with arts and crafts, and places offering Devonshire teas and lunch. It also has sweeping views, a waterfall in a forested gorge and public events. These themes appeal to different interests: on one hand, scenery and walking; on the other, arts and crafts, events and local food. When planning your stay, you can weigh up these attractions; specific food offerings may change.

Views and Nature

On Flaxton’s eastern side, sweeping views stretch across the Blackall Range to the horizon over the sea. It is also a place to watch the sunrise. Here, the wide-open views are the focus, while Baxter Falls to the north offers a specific natural attraction.

Baxter Falls is set in a rugged gorge surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees. After a hike, the natural swimming hole offers a chance to cool off; swimming conditions can vary. The gorge, forest and waterhole create a different landscape experience from the sweeping views on the eastern side.

Walking Routes and Camp

One section of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk runs from Kondalilla National Park to the Flaxton walkers’ camp. It is rated Grade 3, is 4.7 km long and is listed as taking 2–3 hours. These figures apply to this section. Check the latest park information before setting out, as route details may change.

The Flaxton walkers’ camp is also 16.1 km one way from the Baroon Pocket entrance point. The two distances start from different points: the 4.7 km refers to the section from Kondalilla National Park, while the 16.1 km is the one-way walking distance from the Baroon Pocket entrance point. When planning, the starting point and route you have in mind matter—not just the distance.

Two people are recommended for each tent site at the Flaxton walkers’ camp; the camping area has a maximum capacity of 24 people. The recommendation applies to each individual site, while the limit applies to the entire camping area. Capacity information may change, so check the current official camp page when planning.

Events and Local Offerings

Public events at Flaxton Gardens include Sculpture on the Edge and the Sunshine Coast Art & Design Fair. The program may vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your visit around an event, check the venue’s latest information.

Candlelight concerts are held indoors at The Winery. They add a concert format at an indoor venue to the art events mentioned above. Concert dates vary; the venue’s ticket selector shows the current schedule. Check the dates for the period you are considering for your stay.

Devonshire teas and lunch are also among the offerings in Flaxton. Together with arts and crafts and events, they form a culinary and cultural side of the village alongside its scenery and walking attractions. When choosing your destination, you can weigh up whether views and nature, or events and local offerings, are more important to you.
