Bramston Beach is a small coastal settlement. It is an hour south of Cairns and 25 minutes north of Innisfail. These two travel times locate Bramston Beach from the north and south. Its defining feature is the secluded beach, which stretches for 11 kilometres. If you are choosing a destination primarily for its beach and nature, the coastline’s length and character are two practical points of reference.

Beach and activities

The beach appeals both to travellers who want to experience the coast as a landscape and to those looking for a specific activity: you can fish directly from the shore. Lifeguard services are also offered at the beach. Fishing and lifeguard services are different aspects of a visit and can be considered separately in your plans. The beach’s length and secluded character describe the place itself; fishing adds an activity to these features.

Wildlife spotting on the coast and in the settlement

Australian humpback dolphins are often seen off the coast of Bramston Beach, and cassowaries are frequently spotted in the settlement. The two sightings involve different locations: for dolphins, look out to sea; for cassowaries, look around the settlement. If wildlife spotting is a factor in choosing a destination, you can distinguish between these options and decide whether you are more interested in coastal waters or wildlife in the settlement.

Taking a break and staying overnight

Covered barbecue and picnic areas complement the beach activities. They offer a practical place to take a break if you want to plan a picnic or barbecue alongside fishing or wildlife spotting. The areas are specifically described as covered.

There is a camping and caravan park in Bramston Beach for overnight stays. The council campground has sites with and without power. Bramston Beach is also one of the locations of the Cairns Regional Council’s camping and caravan/RV facilities. Power access is a practical selection criterion: if you need a power connection, consider a powered site; if not, you can consider an unpowered site. Check availability of the park and your preferred type of site in advance.

Boat ramp and food

Information about the boat ramp may also be relevant when planning your trip. A list published in 2018 included Bramston Beach among the 13 boat ramps in the Cairns LGA, as of December 2017. If boating is important to you, check the ramp’s current status before planning. This is distinct from the option of fishing directly from the shore: the ramp list is historical, while fishing is a beach activity.

The Bramston Beach Cafe serves fish and chips. If you plan to eat there, check in advance whether the cafe is open.
