Sầm Sơn Town: Beach, Temples and Landscape
Accommodation in Sầm Sơn Town
In Sầm Sơn Town, beaches, landscapes and cultural heritage offer distinct themes to consider when planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the town, you can first consider whether your priorities are time by the sea, natural scenery or historic sites. The coast offers a clear sense of scale and named bathing sections; temples, festivals and striking rock formations add other points of interest.
Sầm Sơn Beach
The beach stretches for about 9 km from Cửa Hới at the mouth of the Mã River to Vụng Tiên. It is crescent-shaped and divided into four bathing sections designated A, B, C and D. Fine white sand, a gentle slope and moderate waves define its character. These features make it suitable for swimming, relaxation and leisure activities. For your trip planning, the coast therefore gives you an idea of both its extent and the opportunities for swimming and relaxation.
Mountains, forest and rock formations
The Trường Lệ Mountains are covered by a special-use forest and are considered an area of scenic beauty and biological diversity. So, alongside the beach, the landscape also offers forest and natural values. A different, particularly vivid sight is Hòn Trống Mái: the formation consists of three rocks, one large lower rock and two smaller upper rocks. One of the upper rocks resembles a rooster, the other a hen. Hòn Trống Mái is recognized as a tourist site in Trường Sơn Ward. The description of the rocks draws attention to their shape, while the forest and mountains form a landscape focus.
Temples and their different locations
Đền Độc Cước is located right next to Sầm Sơn Beach and is a national historical and cultural monument. A winding path with old stone steps leads to this temple on the Trường Lệ Mountains. Cô Tiên Temple stands on the summit of Đầu Voi Mountain at the western end of the Trường Lệ Mountains, in Trường Sơn Ward. The courtyard offers a view of the East Sea, with Hòn Mê Island in the background.
Tô Hiến Thành Temple, popularly known as Đền Trung, is also a national historical and cultural monument. It forms part of a monument and scenic complex that includes Đền Độc Cước, Đền Cô Tiên and Hòn Trống Mái. Hoàng Minh Tự Temple adds another historical point of interest: it was built during the Trần Dynasty and is located in Quảng Vinh District. It is recognized as a provincial-level historical and cultural monument. The temples therefore differ in their locations and their historical or heritage designation.
Festivals in the lunar calendar
A festival is held annually at Đền Độc Cước on the 16th day of the second lunar month, attracting many visitors and local residents. A traditional commune-level festival is held each year at Hoàng Minh Tự Temple on the 24th day of the first lunar month. The dates fall in different months of the lunar calendar, providing different points in time to plan a trip around. If you would like to plan your stay around one of the festivals, check the date for the specific year of travel in advance.
