Cam Ranh Bay, Tu Van Pagoda and several historical sites give a trip different points of focus: scenery, architecture and regional history.

Bay and scenery

Cam Ranh Bay is about 10 kilometers wide at its narrowest point and 20 kilometers wide at its broadest. The Cam Ranh Peninsula almost surrounds it; to the south is the mainland, where the bay opens only through a large entrance. This nearly enclosed shape explains why the water is usually calm.

Scenic places associated with Cam Ranh include Hòn Qui, Hòn Rồng, Núi Cam Linh and Hồ Cam Ranh. Boating, fishing and diving to observe coral are possible tourism activities in the bay. This offers ways to consider the scenery and potential leisure activities as different aspects of the bay.

Culture and architecture

Tu Van Pagoda is among the cultural sites associated with Cam Ranh. It was built in 1968 on Ba Thang Tu Street. Its most striking feature is the 40-meter-high Bao Tich Tower, built from coral and shells bound with cement. For many years, the pagoda’s monks have used dead coral and shells to construct various structures; as a result, the pagoda grounds have become a museum of coral and shells.

A path to the tower leads through front gardens. Tu Van Pagoda is also considered a popular stop on many tours from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang. Those interested in architectural forms can consider the tall tower and the use of coral and shells as related themes.

Historical sites

The historical site Trụ sở Ủy ban nhân dân cách mạng lâm thời huyện Ba Ngòi was designated a provincial historical and cultural monument of Khánh Hòa Province on November 11, 2009. Its grounds include a traditional house with several exhibits about Cam Ranh’s history. An additional entrance provides access to visit the house.

Together with the monument site and traditional house, they offer different points of interest for travelers interested in the area’s history.

Transport and getting around

Cam Ranh lies on National Highway 1A and Vietnam’s north–south railway line. Cam Ranh International Airport is considered a major transport hub for Khánh Hòa Province and the South Central Coast region.
