Liên Sơn: Hồ Lắk, Lakeside Paths and Local Experiences

In the center of Liên Sơn lies Hồ Lắk, a natural freshwater lake covering more than 600 hectares. It is a useful landmark if you want to get to know Liên Sơn through its lake scenery and the paths along the shore. The hill of Biệt điện Bảo Đại also plays a role in the routes around the lake.

Lakeside route and paths from the town center

A lakeside route around the hill of Biệt điện Bảo Đại gives visitors a place to walk and take in views of Hồ Lắk. Benches along the lakeside route offer places to rest. For a walk, this makes for a practical combination: exercise by the water and places to take a break are both among the route’s described uses.

From the center of Liên Sơn, a route more than three kilometers long runs around the foot of the hill of Biệt điện Bảo Đại. It follows Hồ Xuân Hương and Âu Cơ streets along Hồ Lắk and divides into two paths: one leads up the hill, while the other runs through Buôn Lê and Buôn Jun. You can use these directions to choose your route: uphill or through the two named buôn. The starting point, street route and fork thus provide different reference points for finding your way.

Buôn Jun was officially announced as a community-based tourism destination in Liên Sơn in December 2024. The place name on the route therefore refers both to a section of the route and to a place with this community-based tourism designation.

Boat trips, dishes and experiences

In February 2024, visitors could take trips on Hồ Lắk by dugout canoe, motorboat and speedboat. A boat trip on the lake is another way to experience Hồ Lắk, different from walking the lakeside route. If a particular trip is important to your visit, ask about the current offerings in advance.

In February 2024, visitors could try traditional dishes at Hồ Lắk, such as cơm lam, canh cà đắng, chả cá thác lác, cá bống and canh thụt. This specific list of dishes can be considered a culinary highlight in its own right, alongside activities on the water. When planning your trip, a boat trip on the lake and traditional dishes therefore offer different kinds of experiences.

In February 2024, visitors could drink rượu cần, traditional rice wine, in the longhouses of the M’nông Rlăm at Hồ Lắk. Also listed were performances featuring fire and gong music, as well as photography with elephants. The options therefore range from walks and lake views to boat trips, food, performances and photography.
