Đình Cao is a destination with cultural highlights at Cao Đình communal house and nearby Phật-Tích Temple. When planning your visit, it is helpful to distinguish between the two places: the communal house is part of Đình Cao’s local character, while the temple is a nearby highlight. Both offer different ways to explore religious traditions and historical heritage.

Cao Đình Communal House: History and Worship

Cao Đình communal house is designated a provincial-level historical monument. The designation was made under Decision No. 1034 on September 17, 2013. The communal house is dedicated to the village’s three guardian deities: Cao Sơn Quý Minh, Cao Sơn Đống Vang, and Cao Sơn Hưng Phúc. According to tradition, they helped King Lý Thái Tổ fight Champa. The deities’ names and the story associated with them give the religious tradition a concrete context: it connects the worship of the guardian deities with a story about the king. Both its designation as a monument and the local tradition of worship are therefore important to understanding the site.

Architecture and Ceremonial Objects

The main building has a Đinh-shaped floor plan. The main hall has five bays, and the rear sanctuary has three; the building faces southwest. These figures refer to two different parts of the building and should be considered separately. The orientation is a separate detail: it complements the floor-plan description rather than indicating another number of bays. This makes it possible to understand the building’s form, layout, and orientation as distinct architectural features.

The communal house’s collection includes a ceremonial throne, a carved altar platform, a ceremonial scroll, and an altar table. It also preserves a processional shrine and a palanquin with eight carrying poles. These objects convey the variety of the ceremonial furnishings: altar objects and a throne sit alongside items whose names point to processions. The furnishings thus complement the architectural description with tangible objects from the religious tradition.

Nearby Phật-Tích Temple

Phật-Tích Temple is located on the southern slope of Mount Lạn Kha (Rìu Mục), in Phật Tích Commune, Tiên Du District, Bắc Ninh Province. A seated stone statue of Amitabha Buddha is located there. The figure alone is 1.85 meters tall; including its pedestal, it measures 3 meters in total. The two measurements refer to different points of reference and do not conflict. The nearby temple complements the communal house as a separate cultural point of interest in the Đình Cao area.

Festival Tradition and Travel Planning

A concluding thanksgiving ceremony takes place on the 11th day of the Cao Đình festival. This refers to the day within the festival sequence, not to a specific calendar date. If you would like to plan your trip around the ceremony, check the exact festival dates in advance. This preserves the special significance of the eleventh day of the festival without equating it with a fixed date on the annual calendar.
