Pang Sida Waterfall plunges eight metres into a large pool. It lies about 800 metres from the national park administration building. Lalu, waterfalls and limestone formations reveal other facets of Sa Kaeo’s landscape.

Landscapes and Wildlife Watching

Lalu is a natural formation covering more than 2,000 rai. Erosion caused by rain, ground collapse and wind shaped the terrain; harder layers of soil remained standing, with forms reminiscent of city walls, cliffs and pillars. Its varied contours make Lalu a distinctive landscape feature of the region.

An observation tower at Bu Ta Poad Grassland offers a place to watch wildlife. Khao Chakan consists of three large limestone hills that stand directly next to one another. Both places draw attention to different aspects of nature: wildlife in the grassland and the geological formations of the hills.

The approach to Pha Takian Waterfall is wooded and shady, making it suitable for exploring nature on foot. Activities at Pra Prong Reservoir include boat trips, fishing and birdwatching, including the chance to spot the rare Oriental darter. Local conditions may change, so it is advisable to check specific plans in advance.

Within the wider destination of Thailand, Pang Sida National Park is part of the Dong Phayayen–Khao Yai Forest Complex, which extends across several provinces. The complex comprises five almost contiguous protected areas: Khao Yai, Thap Lan, Pang Sida, Ta Phraya and Dong Yai. This larger protected landscape is home to more than 800 animal species.

Temples, Traditions and Local Impressions

Wat Tham Khao Chakan is located on a limestone formation that is several thousand years old and is a Buddhist temple in the Mahayana tradition. About 300 steps lead to a viewpoint at the summit. A cave contains a replica of a Buddha footprint and another viewpoint.

Wat Nakhon Tham is an old temple home to Luang Pho Khao, a seated Buddha figure made of white plaster that is more than 100 years old. The Kasorn Kasivit School offers another way to learn about regional history and agriculture: it was founded as a training centre for water buffalo and teaches farmers traditional agriculture using water buffalo.

Recurring traditions can also shape travel plans. Baisri Su Kwan Khao is held every year after the rice harvest and includes processions, traditional performances and stalls selling local products. Tewo Rohana takes place every year at Wat Tham Khao Chakan. During the event, monks and novices descend the temple steps and receive alms. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the current dates in advance.

Rong Kluea Market is a large border market in Aranyaprathet, with retail and wholesale sales of second-hand goods. Vendors and market conditions may change. Khao Singto Skywalk offers expansive views: from the summit, the panorama extends 360 degrees. Local access conditions may also change.

Getting There and Planning Your Trip

You can reach Pang Sida National Park from Sa Kaeo via Highway 3462 and then continue by bus. Another option is to take the Bangkok–Aranyaprathet Eastern railway line to Sa Kaeo station, then continue by bus. Check current schedules before travelling.

When looking for a hotel in Sa Kaeo, it helps to first decide what your trip will focus on: nature and wildlife watching, temples and traditions, or a market visit. This lets you plan your hotel stay around the things that interest you most, then check suitable dates and connections for your excursions.

Exploring Lalu in Person

At Lalu, visitors must leave their vehicles at the visitor centre and can continue in a local tractor cart. Local and young guides share information about Lalu. Cycling and rides in an agricultural tractor cart are also ways to explore the formation and the surrounding cultural landscape. Check local arrangements before your trip.
