In Mueang Phichit District, the landscape around Bueng Si Fai, archaeological sites, temples and a museum with cultural exhibits come together. When looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether the lake and relaxation, the history of the old city, or temples and the museum will shape your trip. The district’s named localities include Nai Mueang, Rong Chang and Wang Krot.

Bueng Si Fai and its parks

Bueng Si Fai is located in Tambon Nai Mueang. The old swamp lake is considered Thailand’s third-largest body of water. Srinagarindra Park Phichit is situated by the lake and covers a total area of 170 rai. Approximately 50 rai consists of land and 120 rai of water. These figures show both the size of the park and the approximate distribution between land and water.

The Phichit Old City Park includes the Kanchanaguman Arboretum. The shady grounds are suitable for relaxation, offering a different focus from the park’s archaeological traces. If you want to prioritize scenery and quiet relaxation when planning your trip, you can consider these areas as distinct points of interest.

The old city and religious history

Phichit Old City Park is located in Tambon Rong Chang and is considered the site of the old city of Phichit, which is said to have been established around 1601. The site includes two rows of brick city walls, as well as fortifications, storehouses, moats, gates, watchtowers and old pagodas. The walls, moats and watchtowers reflect the site’s defensive character; the pagodas are further features of the former city area.

Wat Tha Luang is on the west bank of the Nan River in Tambon Nai Mueang. The temple was built in Buddhist year 2388 during the reign of King Rama III. Luang Pho Phet is an old bronze Buddha image in the Chiang Saen style. It measures 1.40 metres across the lap and 1.60 metres in height.

Phichit City Museum is located in the former provincial administration building in Tambon Nai Mueang. It presents information about the way of life, traditional knowledge, ethnic groups, religions, beliefs, culture and traditions of the people of Phichit. This offers a different thematic perspective from the architectural and archaeological evidence: the museum focuses on social ways of life and cultural traditions.
