Jinning brings together memories of the Battle of Guningtou, suggested themed routes and the landscape around Shuangli Lake. If you’re looking for a hotel in Jinning, these different highlights can guide how you plan your trip: history, a sequence of named places or the birdlife at the lake.

Guningtou Battle Museum

The Guningtou Battle Museum in Jinning Township is built in the style of an old castle. Exhibits include spoils of war, war documents and photographs of distinguished commanders, as well as twelve large-scale paintings depicting the course of the Battle of Guningtou. The architecture, documents, photographs and paintings explore the subject in different ways. An official tourism notice dated October 4, 2024, reported that the museum had reopened to the public that month after renovation work. It also reported the introduction of the immersive multimedia theater “印象金戰.1949”. This notice describes the reopening in 2024; it does not guarantee that the museum is accessible today.

Suggested routes through the township

The suggested Jinning Township War History Route starts at the Youth Activity Center and passes through Xiputou, the General Li Guang-qian Temple, Lin Residence and Guningtou Battle Museum before reaching Beishan Embankment. It continues via Nanshan Path, Shuangli Wetlands Nature Center, Cihu Observatory Deck, Huxia Embankment and Xiaopuxia to the exit of the Jincheng Tunnels and Jincheng Station. Stops marked with an asterisk are detours. The sequence names many stops, giving you an overview of the route. As route conditions may change, it’s a good idea to check the current route before setting out.

Beishan Broadcasting Wall adds a military-era perspective to the historical picture: it was used for psychological warfare at the time. News and propaganda were broadcast over the wall in Mandarin and Taiwanese Hokkien. The suggested cycling route through Jinning also passes Beishan Broadcasting Wall and Beishan Cliff. Alongside the longer sequence of stops on the War History Route, these are two explicitly named points on the cycling route that you can consider when choosing a theme.

Another option is the suggested Guningtou electric vehicle tour. Its route connects Guningtou Battle Museum, Beishan Broadcasting Wall, Beishan Embankment, Nanshan Village, Shuangli Wetlands Nature Center and Shuangli Lake. It also passes a Wind Lion, the Three-Eyed Well and the Gulongtou Water-Tail Tower. Check with the operator before your trip to confirm whether the tour is currently available.

Shuangli Lake and its birdlife

Shuangli Lake lies between the villages of South and Beishan in Jinning Township. Its many aquatic plants provide waterbirds with habitat and food. The lake therefore matters not only for its location but also as a habitat: the plants are part of the conditions that support the birdlife there. This focus on plants and waterbirds differs from the emphasis on war and military history that shapes the museum, wall and routes.

For your trip planning, you can consider the topics described separately: the museum and its exhibits, the suggested routes and their named stops, and the lake as a habitat for waterbirds. This lets you choose the topics that interest you without treating the different routes or places as if they were the same.
