Sara – Ward Mountain and Community Festivals
Accommodation in Sara
Two aspects of Sara are especially tangible for visitors: the landscape around Ward Mountain and the community festivals of 2026. The mountain’s native trees, wildlife and natural cascade are connected to local agriculture. The events highlight culture, traditions, community and coconut farmers.
Ward Mountain: Landscape and Agriculture
Ward Mountain is located in Sitio Iraya, Barangay Arante, Sara, Iloilo. The mountain covers about 1.75 hectares and features native trees and wildlife, including monkeys, pythons and civet cats. A natural cascade on Ward Mountain supplies water to local rice fields and vegetable gardens. Here, landscape and agriculture are closely connected: trees and animals shape the natural setting, while the cascade serves a practical purpose for farming.
Community Festivals with Distinctive Themes
The 25th Sulay Basya Festival opened in Sara on June 10, 2026. It celebrated the community’s culture and traditions, as well as its solidarity. During the festival, a food stall and a bazaar opened at the Sara Activity Center. Local entrepreneurs were able to showcase and sell their products to festival visitors there. Alongside the cultural focus, the event also highlighted local products and vendors.
On August 20, 2026, the Municipality of Sara held its 2nd Municipal Coconut Celebration at the Sara Activity Center. The program included a walking parade and activities for coconut farmers. Compared with the June festival, this event had a more specific focus on coconuts and agriculture; the Sulay Basya Festival centered on the community’s culture, traditions and solidarity.
The comparison brings out the differences: the Sulay Basya Festival brought community culture and local products together through a food stall and bazaar. The Coconut Celebration connected its focus on coconuts with a parade and activities for farmers. A culturally themed event and a celebration more specifically focused on coconuts thus took place side by side.
The Sara Activity Center also served different functions at the two events: the Coconut Celebration took place there, while the food stall and bazaar opened at the center during the Sulay Basya Festival. Ward Mountain, by contrast, is located in Sitio Iraya, Barangay Arante. These locations distinguish the landscape site from the event venue and the place where the festival offerings were set up.
The two festivals are tied to specific dates in 2026: the Sulay Basya Festival opened on June 10, and the Coconut Celebration took place on August 20. Ward Mountain and its cascade, by contrast, are part of the landscape rather than a single event date. If a festival is important to your travel plans, check the dates for your intended travel period.
