Antique offers a range of ways to plan a trip: islands and protected areas, waterscapes and highland landscapes, outdoor activities, and cultural destinations.

Islands and Landscapes in Antique

Nogas Island, off Anini-y, is uninhabited and covers 24 hectares. It is a marine and bird sanctuary as well as a government-designated island marine reserve. Mararison Island, also called Malalison Island, is a small island beach destination and a barangay in Culasi, Antique. The two island destinations therefore differ in their stated roles: Nogas is a protected area, while Mararison is a beach destination.

Sibalom Natural Park was designated a nature park on April 23, 2000. In the highlands of San Remigio, the three-hectare Danao Lake is a natural habitat for freshwater fish and birds. Bungan Bungan Spring is also shaped by water: it forms a flowing river whose source lies inside Maanghit Cave.

The Antique Rice Terraces in Barangay General Fullon in San Remigio span a continuous area of 600 hectares and are considered a cultural treasure. For orientation in Barangay Aningalan, Igbaclag Cave is about three kilometers from the barangay. At Valderrama Nature Park, you may be lucky enough to see Rafflesias in bloom on nature walks. Their flowering is seasonal.

Culture, Craft, and Remembrance

The Binirayan Festival commemorates the arrival of ten Bornean Datus, or chiefs, on the shores of Malandog in the mid-13th century. In Bugasong, particularly in Barangay Bagtason, local weavers make Patadyong textiles by hand. Alongside the landscapes, these offer distinct cultural themes to choose from: historical remembrance and a living craft tradition.

Swimming and Outdoor Activities

Malumpati Cold Spring in Pandan is the river’s main swimming area. Its natural pool is described as aquamarine blue and has refreshingly cold water. This combines a specific swimming spot with a distinctive natural feature.

In Tibiao, trekking trips to Bugtong Bato Fall and kayaking on the Tibiao River are offered. Cultural immersion tours to the Antique Rice Terraces are also offered from there. These activities appeal to different interests: trekking takes you to the waterfall, kayaking takes place on the river, and the immersion tours focus on the terraces. Tour and guide arrangements may change; check what is currently available in advance.

Another unique experience is the Kawa Hot Bath in Tibiao. You bathe in large, reused iron cauldrons filled with fresh spring water from the mountains. If you mainly want to compare nature walks, river activities, or cultural experiences, these different offerings can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.

Getting There and Choosing a Hotel

As a guide, you can allow three hours for an overland transfer to Antique from Iloilo City and two hours from Caticlan or Kalibo. Travel times and transport availability may change. Within Antique, local buses, vans, and tricycles provide short connections; check current routes and schedules for the places you plan to visit.

When choosing a hotel in Antique, consider not only your travel theme but also the specific location of each property in relation to the places you want to visit. Use the overland transfer times as an initial guide and factor local connections into your plans. This lets you compare hotel options with your travel plans without assuming that the different destinations are all part of a single route.

Culture in Western Visayas

Western Visayas also offers its own cultural points of interest. Miagao Church was built in 1786 by Spanish Augustinian missionaries and recognized in 1993 as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Baroque Churches of the Philippines.” Molo Church is a Gothic Revival church; its pink façade features figures of female saints exclusively.
