Selangor offers travelers a range of highlights: motorsport, historic sites, religious architecture and nature destinations. If you’re looking for a hotel in Selangor, it helps to first consider which of these interests will shape your stay. The places and activities range from visiting a race track and exploring history and food culture to enjoying scenic viewpoints and outdoor experiences.

Motorsport, Views and Nature

The Sepang International Circuit was inaugurated on March 9, 1999, by former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and designed by Hermann Tilke. Its distinctive shape, layout and history help make the race track a tourist attraction. For motorsport enthusiasts, it is a notable landmark to consider when planning a trip.

At Malawati Hill, you can reach the summit on foot or with a short tram ride; panoramic views await at the top. Kota Melawati, an old fort built by the Sultanate of Malacca in the early 16th century, is also located on the hill. At Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor, an island emerges on certain days of the month, reflecting the sky and making it a suitable spot for photography.

The Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park offers a different kind of nature experience: rides on traditional, non-motorized sampans along the Selangor River let you observe fireflies at close range. This river experience is quite different from the views at Malawati Hill or the photo opportunity at Sky Mirror.

Culture, History and Architecture

Batu Caves in Gombak is a limestone hill with three large caves and several smaller ones. Inside the caves is a roughly 100-year-old temple that is an important religious landmark for Hindus. Both geology and religious significance shape the site. Batu Caves is also a popular rock-climbing destination. Gua Damai Extreme Park has more than 120 bolted climbing routes and is considered suitable for beginners.

The Orang Asli Museum Gombak displays hunting equipment, traditional musical instruments, personal jewelry and clothing. Its exhibitions share the history and traditions of the Indigenous Orang Asli. If you’re particularly interested in architecture, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, combines Moorish and ethnic Malay elements.

In Klang, the two-and-a-half-hour Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk, led by professional guides, explores the development of the historic town, the origins of the Selangor monarchy and the British colonial administration from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. The Kajang Heritage Walk has a different focus: guided tours of the Heritage Centre, a temple and other historic sites in the old town are not scheduled regularly. If you’re interested in food culture, the Satay Kajang Gallery features artifacts, information panels, audiovisual guides and dioramas. They trace the history of satay in Kajang back to 1917.

Outdoor Experiences and Weekend Destinations

In Hulu Langat, Sungai Gabai Waterfalls and Tekala Recreational Park are considered popular weekend destinations. Mount Nuang is 1,483 meters high and is regarded as a training ground for hikers and runners. Near Dusun Tua, the nutrient-rich water of a natural hot spring makes for a special spa experience.

Skytrex Adventure Sg Congkak offers organized outdoor activities with an ecological and educational focus. Participants move from tree to tree across a series of suspended obstacles set five to 22 meters above the ground. When planning, you can weigh up different options: rock climbing, high-altitude courses and nature destinations appeal to different interests than historic walks, religious architecture or motorsport.

Getting There and Choosing a Hotel

In Selangor, you can get around by train, bus and bicycle. There are also three airports serving international and domestic travel.
