If you are considering Kangar as a destination for a hotel stay, its local attractions offer a concrete guide: on the outskirts lies the Bukit Lagi limestone ridge, while Kangar Art Street in the centre features a mural. Other attractions include a geotrail, the Pengkalan Asam Run Trail, a garden and Lake Tasik Melati north of the city. Before looking for a hotel, you can use these to decide whether nature, exercise, gardens or public art matter most for your trip.

Limestone ridge, park and garden

Bukit Lagi is a two-kilometre-long limestone ridge on the outskirts of Kangar, running from north to south. Its length and direction make it easy to picture as an elongated ridge. If you distinguish landscapes by their geological features, the ridge is a specific point of reference for the area around Kangar.

Bukit Lagi Public Park is also in Kangar, Perlis. Bougainvilleas in various colours grow in Taman Bunga Kertas Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen, with Bukit Cenderawasih in the background. The garden thus offers a different focal point from the elongated limestone ridge: here, colourful flowers and a named landmark in the background take centre stage.

Hiking, cycling and other activities

There is an established geotrail at the Bukit Lagi geosite where you can go hiking. Cycling is another activity around the geosite. Hiking has the geotrail as a specific reference point, while cycling takes place at the geosite and in its surroundings. In this way, a particular route and a broader activity in the area stand side by side as different forms of exercise.

The Pengkalan Asam Run Trail is frequently used by locals and the public for jogging, training, walking and reflexology. Its name alone does not reveal the variety of uses: alongside jogging and training, it is also used for walking and reflexology. This trail therefore serves a different range of activities from those around Bukit Lagi.

A mural in the centre

Kangar Art Street is in the centre of Kangar. A mural is painted on the wall of a building; the street is an attraction for the public and for tourists visiting the state of Perlis. In contrast to the limestone ridge on the outskirts, the focus here is public art in an urban setting. This makes it possible to distinguish two different local attractions: a geological landform and a mural in the centre.

Tasik Melati north of Kangar

Another landscape attraction is Tasik Melati, eight kilometres north of Kangar. The lake covers 4.5 hectares and is located in a swamp or peatland area; there are more than 150 small islands in its surroundings. The 4.5 hectares refers to the lake itself, while the number of islands refers to its surroundings. Unlike the elongated limestone ridge, Tasik Melati offers a landscape featuring a lake, a swamp or peatland area, and small islands nearby.
