The city offers riverside mangroves, a distinctive coastal landscape, as well as street art and cultural heritage in the urban area. This lets you consider nature, the coast and urban culture as different travel interests.

Mangroves on the Kuantan River

The mangrove reserve lies along the Kuantan River in the city centre. The city council gives its area as 339 hectares, while Tourism Pahang gives it as 340 hectares. Its mangrove stand is said to have existed for nearly 500 years. The two area figures differ by just one hectare and therefore describe nearly the same total area.

At Taman Bakau, two paths lead through the mangrove forest, allowing visitors to explore it without stepping into the mud. The paths are 250 and 750 metres long; the longer one is therefore three times as long as the shorter one. A 40-metre-high tower offers a view over the reserve. Within the same mangrove setting, the paths through the forest thus offer a different perspective from the view from the tower. Check the current access conditions for the paths before your visit.

Coast at Teluk Cempedak

Teluk Cempedak, also known as Teluk Chempedak or Palm Beach, is a beach in Kuantan. White sand, casuarinas and pines along the coast shape the scenery; rocky headlands offer views of the South China Sea.

The viewpoints also offer different perspectives: from the rocky headlands at Teluk Cempedak, the view extends to the South China Sea, while the tower at Taman Bakau offers a view over the mangrove reserve. This lets you distinguish between a coastal perspective and a view across the riverside forest.

City history and street art

Jalan Besar is in Kuantan’s historic district. There, you can take in the city’s diverse cultural heritage and street art. The street is therefore a specific point of reference if you are interested in the historic district and art in the urban area.

Kuantan’s street art can also be discovered on a walk along a road near the Kuantan River. The walls feature paintings by local artists. This gives you two aspects to consider when planning your visit: cultural heritage and street art in the historic district, as well as a walk past the murals near the river.

Kuantan 188 by the river

Kuantan 188 stands on the banks of the Kuantan River. Together with the mangrove reserve, this offers a specific comparison: the river is both a landscape with mangroves and the location of the named landmark Kuantan 188. When considering Kuantan as a destination, you can distinguish between the natural riverside setting and a single landmark on the banks.
