Along Shulba Reservoir, a long, rocky shoreline lies beneath the mountains. Forests and rivers are also part of the landscape of Borodulikha District. At Lake Bolshoe in the village of Borodulikha, a beach serves as a public recreation area; swimming and access conditions may change. The reservoir and the lake offer two different kinds of waterside locations within the district.

Routes and Experiences at Shulba Reservoir

A tourist and ecological route has been proposed for Uba-Forpost. A tourist and ecological hiking and horseback riding route has also been proposed at Shulba Reservoir. During an ascent of the Mohnatukha Ridge, the view encompassed the reservoir, fields, trees and grassland. Check local trail conditions and the status of the proposed routes. Fishing is also among the activities associated with the shore of Shulba Reservoir; local rules may apply.

On a trip described in a 2019 tourism article, a motorboat was used on the reservoir. Horseback riding took place on the shore, and fish soup cooked over a campfire was served. Check in advance whether boat trips and horseback riding are available today.

The collection of the Borodulikha Museum includes a chest from the late 19th or early 20th century. Volga Germans brought it with them during deportation. This everyday object connects the collection with the history of the Volga Germans.

A monument to local soldiers who died in World War II, dated 1979, stands in the central park of the village of Borodulikha. Their names appear on granite slabs; the memorial also features an eternal flame. Dmitrievka has a 1970 war memorial with a sculptural group, themed walls, names of local people and a depiction of the Order of the Patriotic War. The Victory Monument in Zenkovka also dates to 1970: a concrete sculpture depicts a soldier, beside the inscription “No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten.” The monuments emphasize different aspects of local remembrance.

Archaeological Traces

New Shulba-9 is one of the settlements attributed to the Bronze Age and is located on dunes along the Shulbinka. Erosion has affected traces of the site; it has not been excavated. Aul-2 is another Bronze Age settlement, located on sand dunes beside an unnamed lake. It has also been affected by wind erosion, and no excavations have taken place there. These sites should be understood as archaeological context, not as developed visitor attractions.
