Pursat: Waterfalls, Mountain Climb and Culture
Accommodation in Pursat
Pursat offers a range of reasons to plan a trip: a sacred site, a waterfall area with named visitor areas, a mountain climb in stages, and a boat trip offering nature and fishing observations. These places have different focuses: a religious and cultural visit, waterfall areas, a mountain, or a lake. To help plan your trip, it is useful to decide first which of these experiences matter most to you.
Neak Ta Khleang Moeang: Prayer and History
Neak Ta Khleang Moeang is a sacred site where visitors pray. A statue is dedicated to the site and is revered by Cambodians. The statue was remade in 1993 after the ancient statue was completely damaged during the civil war. The site therefore combines religious significance with a specific historical turning point. If you include cultural sites in your trip plans, this site offers a different focus from a waterfall area or mountain climb.
Chrak Leang and the Yeok Waterfall Area
Locals also call the Chrak Leang waterfall site the Yeok Waterfall Area. It is located in Bamnok Village, Chhoeuteal Commune, Krakor District, Pursat Province. The site is 73 kilometers from the provincial capital, Pursat, and 195 kilometers from Phnom Penh; from Krakor town, it is another 41 kilometers via Road 53B.
The eleven named visitor areas are Tangok Koy, Koh Yeay Chamta, Teuk Chhou, Monorom, Thmor Sandok, Damnak Preah Waterfall, Mlub Chrey Krem, Koh Sopheap, the waterfall area, Koh Dach, and Koh Phnhiav. Chrak Leang can therefore be considered a waterfall area with several named visitor areas, not just the name of a single waterfall. These names provide specific points of reference when exploring the site's different areas.
Phnom Tumpoar: A Climb in Two Stages
The climb up Phnom Tumpoar consists of two successive stages. First, visitors travel 1.5 kilometers in a tractor-drawn cart; they then continue on foot to halfway up the mountain, or to the first camp, Puor Phnum, at an elevation of 660 meters. The sequence is important for planning: the described outing includes both a ride and a walk. The first camp is a specific point of reference along the route.
Boat Trip at the Kampong Luang Floating Village
Visitors can take a boat trip with the Kampong Luang floating village community. Along the way, they can see the floating village and the forest, observe traditional fishing, and experience the sunset over Tonle Sap Lake. If you would like to combine nature observation with a glimpse of traditional fishing, this trip offers a distinct focus for your journey. Boat trip availability may change; if it is central to your plans, it is best to check in advance.
Thmada Toch and Phnom 1500: Two Names for One Waterfall
Thmada Toch, also called Phnom 1500 Waterfall, is located in Veal Veng District, Pursat Province. Both names refer to the same waterfall. You therefore do not need to treat them as two different destinations when planning your trip. Its location also distinguishes it from Chrak Leang, which is in Krakor District: the names and districts make it possible to tell the two waterfall sites apart.
