Maagan brings together the history of the kibbutz and the Jewish parachutists in the Land of Israel with activities on the Sea of Galilee. The Maagan Eden holiday village is located in Kibbutz Ma‘agan on the lake’s southern shore. This gives you a specific cultural site, beach and water sports activities, and routes for walking and cycling to consider when planning your trip. These themes complement one another but require different preparations: museum visits must be arranged in advance, while lifeguard services at the beach are available only during the bathing season.

Beit Hatzanhan: Museum in the Kibbutz

Beit Hatzanhan in Kibbutz Ma‘agan is a museum about the history of the Jewish parachutists in the Land of Israel. An exhibition and a film commemorate the parachutists. Another exhibition tells the story of the kibbutz, and the building also has an event hall. Two distinct historical perspectives are presented side by side: the parachutists in the Land of Israel and the history of the kibbutz. Visits to Beit Hatzanhan must be arranged in advance. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, arrange your visit ahead of time.

Lakeshore, Beach, and Water Sports

The Maagan Eden holiday village has a swimming pool and a sandy beach. Lifeguards are on duty at the beach during the bathing season, from April to October. Before your trip, check whether lifeguard services will be available during your stay. The surf area offers another activity: the Adam Surf Sailing Club provides surfing lessons and workshops for beginners and advanced participants. Club participation is subject to a fee.

Different conditions therefore apply when planning your trip: the season for lifeguard services is relevant at the beach, while club participation is subject to a fee. The swimming pool and beach are part of the Maagan Eden holiday village; they should be distinguished from the surf club’s lessons and workshops, which are a separate water sports offering.

Walking and Cycling

A southbound walking route on the Kinneret Trail passes through the banana packing shed of Kibbutz Ma‘agan, descends to the Sea of Galilee, and goes close to Beit Hatzanhan; it ends in the kibbutz. Before setting out, check the route and trail conditions. The route description offers specific landmarks for orientation: the packing shed, the lake, and the museum nearby.

The family-run Ma‘aganim cycling tour business was established in 2014 in Kibbutz Ma‘agan on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. It offers a wide selection of cycling routes around the lake. A family tour recommended by the business starts in Kibbutz Ma‘agan, offers a view of the lake, and continues to Rotem Shizaf Beach. The Kinneret Trail walking route focuses on the path through the kibbutz and the descent to the lake; the cycling tour described here goes as far as Rotem Shizaf Beach. This lets you compare the different routes without treating the two tours as the same.

Archaeological Context in the Northern District

In the broader Northern District destination, Tel Hazor offers a distinct archaeological focus. Tel Hazor is a biblical tell with significant remains of a city associated with biblical history. The visit focuses on the upper city. Tel Hazor also includes Solomon’s Gate, with six chambers and two towers dating to the 10th century BCE. The excavated shaft is 45 meters deep, with steps three meters wide cut into its vertical walls. Tel Hazor also preserves significant remains of an underground water-collection system, an advanced engineering achievement adapted to the geography for water storage. This archaeological perspective on the Northern District complements Ma‘agan’s local focus, where the museum, the parachutists, and the history of the kibbutz take center stage.
