Kfar Szold brings together a range of travel interests and specific attractions: the sculpture garden combines art objects with sweeping views, Hidden Lake is distinguished by its circular shape and the ducks in its center, and Simanei Derekh offers coffee, food and seasonal pick-your-own fruit. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Kfar Szold, these differences can help you choose where to stay based on what interests you most during your visit.

Sculpture Garden with Views Across the Valley and Mountains

The sculpture garden by Tsvika Bass is located at the entrance to Kibbutz Kfar Szold. Its works include objects made from old agricultural equipment, as well as animal sculptures and figures made from local stone. From the sculpture garden, you can see across the entire Hula Valley and the Naftali Mountains. This brings together two perspectives: the garden’s varied materials and figures, and its sweeping views of the landscape.

If you are interested in sculpture, the old agricultural equipment, animal motifs and figures made from local stone can make this a particular focus of your choice of destination. At the same time, the views across the valley and mountains offer another way to experience the garden. Its combination of art and scenery makes it a specific topic to consider when planning your trip, without presuming a general walking tour or a particular length of visit.

Hidden Lake as a Distinctive Landscape Feature

Hidden Lake offers a different focus. The body of water in Kfar Szold is round, with ducks swimming in its center. Unlike the broad panorama from the sculpture garden, here the scene is defined by the shape of the lake and the animals in its center. This makes it possible to distinguish between two different landscape interests: views across the valley and mountains on the one hand, and a single body of water on the other.

If you are weighing art against landscape when choosing places to visit, you can take these differences into account too. The garden features sculptures and wide-ranging views; Hidden Lake features a round body of water with ducks. Each gives Kfar Szold its own distinctive artistic and natural character.

Coffee Cart and Seasonal Pick-Your-Own Fruit

At the Simanei Derekh coffee cart, you can get coffee and, among other things, handmade sausages. Seating is available near the kibbutz’s expansive lawns. The sausages are one specific example of what is offered; menu details may change. If you are planning around a particular food item, check the current offerings in advance.

At Simanei Derekh, visitors can pick their own clementines, grapefruit and oranges. Fruit availability may vary by season. Picking fruit therefore differs from planning around a food offering that is independent of the fruit season: if a particular fruit matters to you, take its seasonal availability into account. Coffee, handmade sausages, seating near the kibbutz lawns and pick-your-own fruit are different reasons to include the coffee cart in your travel plans.

Archaeological Sites in the Wider Northern District Destination

The wider Northern District destination also includes the archaeological sites of Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo. At Tel Hazor, the visit focuses on the Upper City. Its buildings include Solomon’s Gate, with six chambers and two towers dating to the 10th century BCE. The Canaanite palace was used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. A Late Bronze Age palace is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant.

Tel Hazor also preserves important remains of an underground water collection system, an advanced engineering achievement adapted to the geography for storing water. Three-meter-wide steps are carved into the walls of a vertical shaft in this water system. Tel Hazor’s fortifications are considered the finest example of their kind in the area from southern Turkey to the northern Negev.

Tel Megiddo is a biblical tell with significant remains of a city associated with biblical accounts. Its Early Bronze Age temple complex is considered exceptional for the number of its temples, the continuity of cult activity and the documented ritual practices. Another period of particular significance is the orthogonal city plan from the Iron Age, which has few parallels in the Levant. The examples of Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo illustrate the different archaeological sites within the wider Northern District destination, without equating them with the attractions of Kfar Szold.
