Local attractions include collections from the early settlement period, archaeological finds, the history of guarding and security, a tour about electricity generation, and a cycling tour. The themes and tours vary in content and format, so you can decide whether culture, history, or exercise should be the deciding factor.

Museums and History in Evron

The “Kibbutz Shel Pa’am” Museum displays a diverse collection of objects from the early settlement period. The Evron Archaeological Museum and Garden is associated with finds that include traces of early settlement, tools, animal bones, a prehistoric elephant tusk, and an ancient mosaic floor. The two museums thus offer different perspectives: one focuses on a collection of objects from the early settlement period, while the other centers on archaeological finds.

The Evron Pillbox Museum focuses on guarding and security. It includes a guard post, a searchlight, weapons, and communication equipment used by the kibbutz’s night watchmen and security personnel. The Naaman Factory Museum displays porcelain tools and products, as well as exhibits and objects made at the Naaman factory. Visits to the Evron Pillbox Museum and the Naaman Factory Museum can be included in the Evron Circuit by prior arrangement.

Country Gan Evron is another distinct attraction at the kibbutz: the country club is open to members from outside the kibbutz. Membership is the basis for access; it is not the same as general admission for the public.

Tours and a Cycling Tour

The “Green Electricity” tour begins with a meeting at Kibbutz Evron. From there, a vehicle takes visitors to a power-generation station at a landfill site. The tour requires prior arrangements. A cycling tour runs from Evron to Rosh HaNikra and back. The two activities clearly differ in format: the first includes a vehicle journey, while the second is a cycling route with a named destination and return leg.

Archaeological Sites in the Wider Northern District Destination

Within the wider Northern District destination, Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo are distinct archaeological sites. Both are biblical tells with significant remains of cities associated with biblical references, but their particular highlights differ. At Tel Hazor, the visit focuses on the upper city. Tel Hazor includes Solomon’s Gate, with six chambers and two towers dating to the 10th century BCE. The Canaanite palace from the Late Bronze Age was used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. It is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant.

Tel Hazor also preserves significant remains of an underground water-collection system. It represents sophisticated engineering adapted to the geography for water storage; steps three meters wide are carved into the walls of the vertical shaft. The fortifications are also particularly notable: they are considered the finest example of their kind in the area stretching from southern Turkey to the northern Negev.

At Tel Megiddo, the emphasis is different, focusing on temple complexes and urban planning. The Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional in terms of the number of its temples, the continuity of religious activity, and the documented ritual activities. The orthogonal city plan from the Iron Age has few parallels in the Levant. Comparing it with Tel Hazor reveals distinct archaeological themes: underground water storage, fortifications, and gate construction at Tel Hazor, and a temple complex and city plan at Tel Megiddo.

Tel Hazor National Park can be reached from the north and south via Route 90 toward Ayelet Hashahar. Check your navigation before setting out.
