Geulim: Views, Remembrance and Founders Grove
Accommodation in Geulim
Geulim can be explored through three specific themes: the view from Givat Shalom, the memorial there and Founders Grove. The eucalyptus grove is dedicated to the founding families of the moshav and the community, and commemorates the early years of the moshav and the community. This gives you an initial overview of the landscape, remembrance and founding history.
Givat Shalom: Views and Memorial
Givat Shalom is the highest point in Geulim and also a viewpoint. From there, you can look east toward the Samaria Mountains and west toward the area around Kfar Yona and Hadera. This makes it possible to understand the view in terms of two clear directions; the named areas provide specific reference points. The east-west contrast gives the viewpoint a distinct spatial structure. If you are interested in the landscape, you can consider the two sides as different perspectives and identify the areas named in each.
Givat Shalom also has a large lawn, benches and several picnic tables. This describes the outdoor facilities as well as the view. If you assess places not only by their views but also by the facilities available, these features form a distinct part of the picture.
The memorial on Givat Shalom commemorates moshav residents who fell in Israel’s wars or during their service. It also commemorates eleven people who lost their lives in Geulim and the surrounding area during the War of Independence. Two commemorative references are represented here: the first group is defined by their connection to the moshav and their deaths in war or during service; for the eleven people, the reference is the War of Independence and Geulim and its surroundings. In addition to the general remembrance of the fallen, the memorial thus records a specific connection with Geulim and its surrounding area. This adds a historical dimension to your experience of Givat Shalom, alongside the view.
Founders Grove: Eucalyptus Grove and Founding History
Founders Grove introduces a different historical theme. It is a eucalyptus grove that you enter from the parking lot of the Geulim minimarket. The grove is dedicated to the founding families of the moshav and the community, and commemorates the early years of the moshav and the community. The minimarket parking lot marks the access point; the dedication connects the grove with the families and the early years of the place. Founders Grove therefore has a different focus from the memorial on Givat Shalom: here, the founding families and the history of the settlement’s founding are central.
The different focuses help you choose which places to visit according to your interests. At Givat Shalom, the views east and west, the available facilities and remembrance come together. Founders Grove, by contrast, turns your attention to the founding families and the early years of the moshav and the community. In this way, the landscape, remembrance of the fallen and founding history can be considered as different aspects of Geulim.
