The fastest bus journey from Ranchi takes approximately 8 to 10 hours. Culture and History

In Pakur district, the Santhals and Paharias are the main population groups. Historically, Pakur developed as a cluster of ponds and orchards, surrounded by dense forest and hard rock in the Rajmahal Hills area.

The very old Nitya Kali Mandir is located on the grounds of Pakur Rajbari in the northern centre of Pakur Town. The statue of the goddess Kali is carved into a large black stone. The Martello Tower, a remnant of the conflict between the British and the Santhals, is also in Pakur Town. British colonial rulers built it in 1857 to repel the Santhal uprising.

Birkitti was the site of a battle in the early 18th century between the local Rajput chief, Raja Udit Narayan Singh, and Nabab Murshid Kuli Khan from Murshidabad. Devinagar contains the remains of temples and houses attributed to Raja Udit Narayan Singh. Ruins of a tunnel that once connected Devinagar with the village of Birkitti are also visible there.

Religious Sites and Festivals

Shiv Sheetla Mandir is a religious landmark for the Hindu community. Kanchangarh Cave contains Shivlings; devotees visit daily to perform puja. Diwan-e-Pir is a sacred site where Muslims offer prayers on the eve of their festivals.
