Discover Udham Singh Nagar
Accommodation in Udham Singh Nagar
Udham Singh Nagar lies in the Terai, a lowland region at the foot of the Himalayas, and is the gateway to the Kumaon Mountains. Its places to visit offer a range of themes: in Kashipur, archaeological heritage meets a popular excursion destination; Nanakmatta combines Sikh pilgrimage history with Nanak Sagar; and in Rudrapur, Lake Paradise and the nearby Kalyani River are highlights. When planning a trip, you can organize your itinerary around the places that interest you most.
Kashipur: Archaeology and tradition
Dronasagar in Mauza Ujjan, Kashipur, is an archaeological site excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India. Drona Sagar is also associated with the tradition of the Pandavas. The site can therefore be viewed both for its archaeological significance and its cultural heritage. Giri Tal is a popular excursion destination in Kashipur and adds another local highlight to this perspective.
Near Kashipur is Chaiti Devi, Moteshwar Mahadev Temple, 2.5 km from the Kashipur bus station on the Kashipur–Bajpur route. A large festival is held there during the holy Navratras. Kashipur thus offers historical and cultural themes as well as a recurring festival tradition.
Pantnagar and Nanakmatta
The Pantnagar Museum preserves the history of Pantnagar since its founding. This gives Pantnagar its own cultural and historical focus alongside the archaeological and religious traditions of other places in the district.
Nanakmatta is an important pilgrimage center for the Sikh religion. Gurdwara Sri Nanak Matta Sahib is associated with the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Devji. It is believed that Guru Nanak Devji visited Nanakmatta in 1515 on his way to Kailash Parvat. This tradition shapes the religious significance of the place. Water is also part of Nanakmatta’s character: the large Nanak Sagar dam was built on the Saryu River and adds to Nanakmatta’s scenic beauty. Here, pilgrimage history and waterside scenery come together as two distinct travel interests.
Water destinations and nature in the district
Lake Paradise is a landscaped area in the center of Rudrapur near the Kalyani River and is visited by tourists throughout the year. Atariya Temple near Rudrapur is dedicated to the goddess Atariya and is 2 km from the Rudrapur bus station. The Rudrapur area thus offers both an urban green space and a religious site with a specific distance from the bus station.
Part of Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary lies in Udham Singh Nagar district. The sanctuary is home to more than 31 mammal species, 235 bird species and 277 plant species. As another historical reference, in February 2019 the Uttarakhand government declared Haripura Dam a tourist destination as part of an initiative for a water sports competition.
Choose the right focus for your stay
When looking for a hotel in Udham Singh Nagar, a simple approach can help: first decide whether archaeology and local history, Sikh pilgrimage traditions, waterside destinations or nature are the main focus of your trip.
